The President of the African Development Bank Group, Akinwumi Adesina, has made an urgent call to give farmers across the continent new technologies with the potential to transform agricultural production. Adesina said the technology transfer was needed immediately and that evidence from countries like Nigeria demonstrated that technology plus strong government backing was already yielding positive results.

Adesina told delegates at the 2018 conference attended by over 1,600 agricultural and applied economists from around the world: “There is no reason why Africa should be spending US$ 35 billion a year importing food. All it needs to do is to harness the available technologies with the right policies and rapidly raise agricultural productivity and incomes for farmers, and assure lower food prices for consumers.”

A survey by Jobberman, a leading recruitment agency in the West African region, provides another damning statistic.

According to the survey, taken by almost 90,000 people, 47% of the country’s university graduates are unemployed in Africa’s largest economy. By some estimates Nigerian tertiary education institutions produce up to 500,000 graduates every year and there are also Nigerian graduates who study abroad who come home to compete for jobs.

To us winning $1 million at the Hult Prize International Competition 2018, isn't just about a completion. We see the impact we can create even afterwards, not just for a select few but for our Nation at large. We can help our government deliver the change they promised especially in the Agricultural sector. In 5 years we plan to train and set over 5000 young people up with Modern Farms to produce healthy and affordable food in every community. We are taking Nigeria back to the days when agriculture was her major source of income.

This has to stop!! Our women can not continue to make a living like this. As much as they will like to support their family financially they shouldn't be made to go through this kind of labour. Farming is great but there is a better way to it than this. No young person will want to farm like this for a living. Together we can bring a stop to this join the TechFarm movement today. We are empowering young people in Nigeria to Farm in a MODERN way.
