It’s lunch o’clock!

A peek into what goes on during Lunch Time in the Children’s house.

Last slide to catch a glimpse of the diners.

The table is set up by the children themselves with guide from an adult.

After food, they help clean up, put away their flasks and bottles and take turns to wash their dishes.

Practical@life activities are very calming for children and helps them adapt to their environment.

Would you involve your young ones in lunch prep?

It’s one more sleep before the Class of 2024 graduates and we are just grateful to God for his mercies, for how far he has brought us and for where he’s taking us.

We are grateful to the children for the work they’ve done so far, to our Staff who work behind the scenes to make things happen and also to our parents who have remained a supportive part of our community.

Did You Know? Montessori Classrooms Intentionally Contain Breakable Items

Montessori classrooms not only contain more ‘natural’ items such as wood, but they also contain breakable items like glass, porcelain and ceramic.

Why is this?

These potentially breakable items have a built- in control of error, which is one of the fundamental tenets of a Montessori education. This particular control of error demonstrates that if you drop the item or knock it over, it may crack or break.

Children learn to handle breakable items with care, while also discovering cause and effect.

A glass vase, for example, can provide a sensorial experience for a child while they can feel the weight, texture and fragility of the vase. Carrying a vase filled with water and a flower teaches them about balance and responsibility.

Using glass or ceramic bowls and plates can also prepare children for practical life skills. They learn to pour, serve, and handle objects gracefully and with care.

✨ These seemingly minor learning experiences are a catalyst to a child’s growth & development as responsible and caring human beings.

🍎 Top 10 Ways Montessori Differs from Traditional Education 🏫

1. Child-centered learning vs. teacher-directed instruction 🧒
2. Mixed-age classrooms instead of single-grade levels 🚸
3. Hands-on materials rather than textbooks 🤲
4. Self-paced progress vs. standardized curriculum 📚
5. Intrinsic motivation over external rewards 🌟
6. Prepared environment instead of standard classrooms 🪑👩🏻‍🏫
7. Focus on practical life skills, not just academics 🧹🫗
8. Three-hour work cycles vs. short subject periods ⏳
9. Individual and small group lessons instead of whole-class instruction 🧒👧🏾🧒🏽
10. Emphasis on peace education and global citizenship 🌍

“The Child is the Father of the Man” - Williams Wordsworth , 1802.

Today and always we celebrate the child, our special gift, the hope of the future.

Happy Children’s Day to the generations that we are privileged to help nurture and form.
