The Bauchi State government has announced a five-week closure of all schools to accommodate the 2025 Ramadan fast. This decision, affecting public and private institutions from primary to tertiary levels, is part of the state’s 2024–2025 academic calendar. The closure is scheduled from March 1 to April 5, 2025, allowing students to observe Ramadan without academic obligations.
Jalaludeen Maina, Information Officer for the Ministry of Education, confirmed that this pre-planned holiday aims to prevent students from fasting while in school. He stated that academic activities would resume immediately after the fasting period.
However, the extended break has raised concerns among parents and educators. Some fear it may disrupt learning and affect preparations for external examinations like WAEC, NECO, and JAMB. Additionally, there are worries about potential increases in out-of-school children, considering Bauchi’s existing educational challenges.
In response to these concerns, a group of Christian faith-based schools has appealed to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for intervention, arguing that the closure could harm peaceful coexistence between Christian and Muslim students. They also note that tertiary institutions and civil servants are not required to suspend activities during Ramadan.
The state government has warned that non-compliance with the closure directive could result in sanctions for private schools. This move underscores the administration’s commitment to enforcing the academic calendar as planned.
As the closure period approaches, stakeholders continue to debate its implications for the educational system and student well-being in Bauchi State.

The Bayelsa State Government has said it is working on plans to make the teaching and learning of the Ijaw, French and Chinese languages as well as science and mathematics a priority in public schools in the state.
It stated that the essence of emphasising the teaching of the three languages, and the core science subjects, including mathematics, was to prepare and equip children to take full advantage of career opportunities in those subjects.
The Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the state chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria in Government House in Yenagoa.
He explained in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi, on Thursday, that the growing economic influence of China in global affairs as a major state actor in world trade and commerce, justified the inclusion of Chinese as a subject in the school curriculum.

Why wait to cross 18 years to gain admission???
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has disclosed that the federal government plans to review and peg the minimum entry age into tertiary institutions in the country at 18 years.
The minister who gave the hint while monitoring the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Abuja, advised parents against pushing their children and wards “too much,” to allow them to attain some level of maturity to be able to better manage their affairs.
“The other thing which we notice is the age of those who have applied to go to the university. Some of them are really too young. We are going to look at it because they are too young to understand what a university education is all about.
“That’s the stage when students migrate from a controlled environment where they are in charge of their own affairs. So if they are too young, they won’t be able to manage properly. That accounts for some of the problems we are seeing in the universities.

🚨Jamb has order the arrest of all parents spotted around exam center.🚨
The Board's helmsmen backed up this with the below article..
This measure has been taken as it has been discovered over time that many of these intruding parents are facilitators of examination infractions while others have, by their actions, disrupted the Board’s examinations in the past. Some miscreants also disguise as parents to infiltrate the centres to perpetrate all forms of infractions.
Consequently, the Registrar disclosed that the Board has directed security operatives to work with the centres to apprehend any meddlesome parent, who come near the centres.
The Board’s helmsman noted that going by the extant national policy on education, a candidate for the examination must have attained the age of 17 years. Therefore, it is evident that these parents had not allowed their wards to pass through the classes as defined in the document, hence, the determination to follow their wards to the examination venue with the aim of compromising examination officials. At any rate, it is clear to any discerning observer that these parents deserve to be sanctioned as they had obviously ‘smuggled’ underage children into the ranks of those scheduled to sit the examination
Was this the right move?? Let's know in the comment section.
Happy new week ❤️
