So this class of 39 students of the University of Lagos is very special. The Business Simulation Laboratory where these students are practising to become future entrepreneurs, business leaders and managers is an Undergraduate Employability Program of the AIBS, to prepare young people graduating from tertiary schools for work,business and life. It is the first such ever laboratory of its kind in N
igeria. The Business Simulation Laboratory is named after the financial sponsor, Beloxxi, Nigeria's leading biscuit manufacture.r
The AIBS vision is to see :
• Business Business Simulation Laboratories fitted with computers linked to high speed broad band internet in every tertiary school in Nigeria. These Biz SimLabs as students and faculty call them are open to business and non-business majors. The labs are where students go to test and practice the business theory they have learnt in class.They are where non-business majors go to acquire business skills. They are where all students go to acquire the practical skills of business leadership and entrepreneurship.
• Universities and other tertiary schools are producing confident, business ready graduates. These graduates in addition to being grounded in their primary specialities, have business acumen. They know how to combine business awareness with their disciplines to create new values for themselves and for society. The History student knows how to transform the lessons of History into valuable ideas, concepts and products, to advance society’s wellbeing. In doing so, he becomes self-reliant whilst at the same time contributing to society’s progress. The information Technology student sees how in collaborating with other students of the Physical Sciences, Geography, Social Science, Psychology, Marketing, Accounting, Economics, Finance etc, they can create simple but powerful simulation models for solving many of the social, environmental and economic problems confronting African organizations and communities in Africa. Many of these solutions are now thriving social business run by the new generation of African educated young social business managers. They are the new examples of how to exploit innovative thinking and market principles to produce both economic and social good for self and others. The Education majors are no longer looking for greener pastures in other fields. Many education majors are collaborating with students and graduate colleagues of other disciplines to build business games and simulations for teaching Physics, Mathematics, Accounting, Geography, Economics, Investing, etc., a whole new education industry has arrived employing millions of productive and happy young people.
