Topic: "Education, development, entertainers and our society"- Why we need to change our views.

"Education, a tool Africa needs to alter tangible change, economical and technological"

Africans are normally looked down upon in the international community due to the abject poverty and lack of effective leadership in the country. Though there are countries that are rich in natural resources in africa but most school age children and adults suffer not only from financial distress, but an utter lack of education that damns them to a life of poverty. Even with the level of financial distress, many African still view achieving better education as unimportant, often you'll hear them say "with your level of education how much of D'banj's expensive living can you afford?. Maybe they fail to understand that education transcends fame and living expensive life.

The larger blame of hearing people refer to education as unimportant pursuit goes to our media and society that are used to portraying our entertainers (Artiste, musician, actors etc) as the only well to do individuals in our society, forgetting that there are people who are also beating the odds and earning good income in their chosen field through education. This action of our media has been rubbing on our younger ones faces, as most of them now see entertainment as a career even without them having the required talent. Often you'll see broadcast of entertainers on our national television stations and entertainers' reality show, how many of educational reality show have you seen on our national television stations? Even the ones that are made available are poorly funded. Economic disadvantage individuals are not granted students' loan and our government's scholarships are grossly compromise, that larger percentage is awarded on who-know-who.

Statistically according to a research conducted. It shows that sixty percentage (60%) of African youths don't read books. I now observe that most parents do not encourage their wards to read anymore they will rather encourage them to be the best entertainer so that wallow in its euphoria. Certainly Africa can only attain the mantle of leadership and development when we all stop celebrating unnecessary issues and start embracing education. I'd like to say, education, a tool for national development, should not be neglected for ignorance.

"The library connects us with the insight and knowledge, painfully extracted from Nature, of the greatest minds that ever were, with the best teachers, drawn from the entire planet and from all our history, to instruct us without tiring, and to inspire us to make our own contribution to the collective knowledge of the human species. I think the health of our civilisation, the depth of our awareness about the underpinnings of our culture and our concern for the future can all be tested by how well we support our libraries." ~Carl Sagan, Cosmos

"The best of my education has come from the public library. My tuition fee is a bus fare and once in a while, five cents a day for an overdue book. You don't need to know very much to start with, if you know the way to the public library." ~Lesley Conger

All you need to know about Ebola Virus:

1. It is a Central African disease
that has traveled over
countries in a living host to West Africa. It is easily spread by physical contact and eating contaminated bush meat.

Major hosts are in 5 species of Bats but monkeys and apes are easily infected and killed.

2. It kills in a week, leaving no time to treat an individual.

3. It has no known vaccine or cure.

4. Known cases have been experienced recently in Guniea,
Liberia and Central Africa Rep, spreading eastwards and
westwards towards Nigeria.
Death toll so far in West Africa is over 100.

5. The Ebola outbreak of 2014 is the most challenging one
witnessed in Africa.

What we can do?

1. Avoid eating any bush meat for now! Especially Apes and
Bats.

2. Wash your hands as
regutlarly as possible, especially after shaking a stranger. It is spread by contact.

3.The most straight forward prevention method during
Ebola outbreaks is not
touching patients, their excretions, and body fluids, or
possibly contaminated
materials and utensils.
Traditional burial rituals, especially those requiring
embalming of bodies, should be discouraged or modified.

Awareness is key, don't just read or ignore...spread this
campaign before the virus spreads.

Akpos and Musa were caught in a Northern
African country, sharing a smuggled barrel
of beer. They were arrested and taken to
the Sheik's palace for questioning and
judgment.
Akpos lied that Musa smuggled and forced
him to drinkthe beer! Both were initially
given a death sentence but, as it was a
national holiday, the Sheik decided they
should be released after some lashes of the
whip. As they were preparing for their
punishment, the Sheiksaid, "It's my first
wife's birthday today and she asked me to
allow each of you 2 wishes before your
whipping, but you cannot wish not to be
whipped!"
Akpos thought for a second then said:
"Please tie two pillows to my back before
whipping." And my second wish is that you
flog me only 20 strokes of the whip. He
was whipped, and luckily for him, the
pillows helped to make the pain of the whip
lesser.
Musa saw this; thought for a second, then
said: "Thank you, most royal and merciful
highness for the wishes. My first wish is to
receive 100 lashes with the strongest,
toughest whip available.",
Akpos laughed and thought Musa was a
fool...The Sheik replied with apuzzled look
on his face," and your second wish?"
Musa replied "Tie Akpos to my back!"

STOP BOASTING…….

• Some are proud of Blackberry phones, BBM is now even in Techno phones.

• Some are proud of ipad tablet computer not knowing that Secondary students at Osun State are using it free for their studies.

• Don’t boast about your Jeep SUV because that is what some airport taxi operators use at Abuja airport.

• Why must a Nigerian boast of travelling by air when other Nigerians are placing an aircraft on charter just to carry a co**se?

• Never boast of the numbers of degree you have. World top billionaires are not graduates.

• Don’t boast of your beauty.-‘Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last’- Proverbs 31:30

• Never boast of your height. Aki and PawPaw are worth over 50 Million Naira each.

Be humble always. Whatever you are today or have achieved is not just only because of your hard work and smartness. The grace and favour of the Lord is upon your life!
Appreciate the role of God in your life’s achievements..
