On the issue of the State of Emergency in Rivers State and Governor Fubara's six-month suspension, Nasir el-Rufai lied at his press conference with the highly esteemed former vice President Waziri Atiku Abubakar when he said the Supreme Court lashed President Obasanjo for suspending two Governors from office after declaring a State of Emergency in their states (Plateau and Ekiti).
Speaking at the press conference, Nasir el-Rufai said:
"It is true that in those two cases, the Governors were suspended. These cases were challenged in the Court and in 2006, the Supreme Court of Nigeria gave a judgement, even though by then, they had been restored back to office, but lashed the Obasanjo Administration and said under no circumstance will the Emergency provisions under Section 305 be used to remove any elected official."
However, in suit SC.113/2004, filed on June 24, 2004, by the then Plateau Governor against the Federal Governor, the Supreme Court, in a lead judgment by Justice Idris Kutigi, who later became Chief Justice of Nigeria, struck out the case.
If Nasir el-Rufai does not know this, then it is no surprise that he has not finished his PhD degree at the UN Merit University, Maastricht, in the Netherlands, more than eight years after starting it.
Nasir el-Rufai is now forced to rely on lies because he has no legal, historical, or moral basis to justify his condemnation of President Tinubu's action. He is only doing this to continue his revenge—and spite-driven mission to punish President Tinubu for his rejection by the National Assembly as a minister.
