WHEN HEAVEN WENT SILENT
Chapter 10: The Gathering Storm

Inspired by biblical themes.

The words echoed through the silent village. "An army is marching toward this village."

No one spoke. The smoke from the burning fields still drifted through the air, but suddenly, the fire seemed like the smallest of their problems.

Fear spread from one face to another.A woman clutched her child tightly.
An elderly man dropped to his knees.

Young men looked toward the distant hills, wondering how much time they had left.
Nathan slowly stepped into the center of the marketplace.

"Listen to me," he said firmly. "Panic will only make us weaker." "But how many are they?" someone shouted. Nathan looked toward his scout.

"What did you see?" The exhausted rider swallowed hard.
"More than a hundred armed men."

A gasp swept through the crowd. "They're still two days away," the scout continued, "but they are moving quickly."

Joram, the village elder, struck his staff against the ground."We must strengthen the gates."

Another elder added, "Gather every man who can fight."
The villagers rushed to prepare.

Some sharpened old farming tools. Others carried stones to reinforce the walls.
The women gathered food and water for the days ahead.

Yet amid all the activity, Hadassah stood quietly with the ancient scroll held close to her chest.

She couldn't shake the feeling that this battle was about more than soldiers.
She unrolled the scroll.

The parchment glowed softly. New words slowly appeared.
"Do not trust in walls alone. A fearful heart falls before a broken gate."

She read the message twice.

Nathan noticed the glow and walked over. "What does it say?"
Hadassah handed him the scroll.

After reading it, he closed his eyes. "This isn't just a warning."What do you mean?"
"It's telling us that courage matters as much as preparation."

Just then, Malachi approached. His face was calm, almost too calm.
"So," he said, "we're trusting glowing words instead of swords now?"

Nathan met his gaze. "We're preparing for both."
Malachi smiled faintly. "I hope your faith can stop an army."
Without waiting for a reply, he walked away.

Hadassah watched him disappear into the crowd.

Something about his behavior troubled her.
"He isn't afraid," she whispered.

Nathan looked in the same direction. "No." "He seems... certain."
That night, the village gates were closed.

Torches burned along the walls.

Guards took turns watching the roads leading into the village.
Hadassah could not sleep.

She climbed the same hill where she had prayed weeks before.
The wind was cool. The stars filled the sky. She knelt and whispered,

"Lord, I don't understand why all this is happening."

"I never asked to carry this message."

"I only wanted to be faithful."

For several moments...
Only silence answered.

Then she heard footsteps behind her.

She turned quickly.

The mysterious cloaked guardian emerged from the darkness.

"You came," Hadassah said softly.

"I told you we would meet again."

She stood.

"Who are you?"

The man lowered his hood just enough for the moonlight to reveal an older face marked by years of hardship.

"My name is Azriel."

"Have we met before?"

"No."

"But I knew your grandfather."

Her eyes widened.

"My grandfather died before I was born."

Azriel nodded.

"He also protected the message."

Hadassah stared in disbelief.

"What message?"

Azriel looked toward the scroll.

"That scroll has been guarded across generations."

"It was never meant for one family."

"It was meant for the moment when hope would almost disappear."

A chill ran down Hadassah's spine.

"So... this was planned long ago?"

"Long before either of us was born."

Suddenly—

A loud horn echoed from the village below.

BOOOOM!

The guards shouted from the walls.
"Riders!"

"More riders!"
Nathan's voice rang through the night.

"Everyone to your positions!.

Hadassah looked toward the village.

Torches were moving rapidly.
People were screaming.

Azriel's expression turned serious.

"They've come sooner than we expected."

As they rushed down the hill...

A single flaming arrow shot across the night sky.

It landed on the wooden watchtower.

Within seconds...

The tower erupted into flames.

The invasion...
..had begun.

WHEN HEAVEN WENT SILENT
Chapter 9: The Fire of Testing

Inspired by biblical themes.

The flames climbed higher into the morning sky.

Thick black smoke covered the village like a dark blanket. The smell of burning crops filled the air, and frightened voices echoed from every direction.

"Bring more water!"

"Save the children!"

"The fire is spreading!"

Villagers ran in panic, carrying buckets from the well. Others beat at the flames with branches, desperate to stop the fire before it reached their homes.

Hadassah stood frozen.

In one hand she held the ancient scroll.

In the other, the glowing stone tablet.

The words that had appeared moments earlier still echoed in her heart.

"The first trial has begun. Stand firm, for truth will be tested by fire."

Nathan rode toward her on horseback.

"Hadassah!"

She looked up.

"You must leave this place."

"What?"

"If those who started this fire are truly after the message, then you are their next target."

She shook her head.

"I cannot leave while everyone else is suffering."

Nathan admired her courage, but fear filled his eyes.

"You don't understand. This fire was never about destroying crops."

He lowered his voice.

"It was meant to draw everyone away from you."

Hadassah's heart skipped.

Before she could answer—

A loud scream pierced the air.

"They've taken the scroll!"

She looked down.

Her hands were empty.

The scroll...
..was gone.

Someone had stolen it.

Without thinking, she searched the crowd.

People were running in every direction.

Smoke made it impossible to see clearly.

Then...

She caught a glimpse of a dark cloak disappearing between two burning houses.

"The stranger!"

Hadassah shouted.

She ran after the figure.

Nathan and two riders followed close behind.

The chase led through narrow streets filled with smoke and falling embers.

The cloaked figure moved quickly, weaving through frightened villagers.

Just as Hadassah began to gain on him...

The stranger stopped.

He turned slowly.

It wasn't the mysterious guardian from the forest.

It was someone else.

A younger man.

His face was hidden beneath a black hood.

In his hand...
..was the glowing scroll.

"Give it back!" Hadassah cried.

The man laughed.

"You think this belongs to you?"

"It belongs to the One who sent the message."

The thief smiled coldly.

"Then let Him come and take it."

He raised the scroll high into the air.

For a terrifying moment, it seemed he intended to throw it into the fire.

Hadassah's eyes filled with tears.

"No!"

Suddenly...

A powerful wind swept through the village.

The flames bent away from the scroll instead of toward it.

The glowing parchment slipped from the thief's hand and floated gently through the air.

Everyone stopped moving.

The scroll did not burn.

It drifted as though unseen hands were carrying it.

Finally, it landed at Hadassah's feet.

Silence fell over the street.

Even the thief stared in disbelief.

Nathan whispered,

"No fire can destroy what God has appointed for His purpose."

The young thief took a step backward.

Fear replaced the confidence on his face.

Before anyone could seize him, he disappeared into the smoke.

Nathan picked up the scroll and handed it back to Hadassah.

"Guard it well."

She nodded.

"I will."

Just then, another rider galloped into the village.

He was exhausted.

His horse stumbled before stopping.

He looked directly at Nathan.

"Captain..."

"What is it?"

The rider struggled to catch his breath.

"Our scouts have returned."

Nathan's expression became serious.

"What did they find?"

The rider looked around to make sure no one else was listening.

Then he whispered something into Nathan's ear.

Nathan's face immediately turned pale.

Hadassah noticed.

"What happened?"

Nathan looked at her with deep concern.

"The fire..."

He paused.

"...was only a warning."

Her heart sank.

"What do you mean?"

Nathan looked toward the distant mountains.

"An army is marching toward this village."

The words struck everyone with fear.

The fire had been only the beginning.

A far greater storm was on its way.

And somewhere beyond the hills...

A mysterious leader watched the smoke rising from the village.

He smiled and spoke to the warriors beside him.

"Prepare yourselves."

"This time..."

"We will silence the message forever."

WHEN HEAVEN WENT SILENT
Chapter 8: The Riders at Dawn

Inspired by biblical themes.

Before the first rooster crowed, an uneasy silence settled over the village.

The moon was fading, and the eastern sky had begun to glow with the first light of dawn.

Hadassah had not slept.

The words on the ancient scroll echoed in her heart.

"Do not fear those who reject the truth. Fear only abandoning what is right."

She knelt beside her bed, whispering a quiet prayer.

"Lord, I do not know what today will bring. But if this path is truly before me, give me the courage to walk it."

As she rose to her feet, a loud sound shattered the stillness.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

It wasn't knocking.

It was the sound of horses.

Fast.

Heavy.

Coming straight toward the village.

People rushed from their homes in confusion.

Children clung to their mothers.

The village gates swung open as six riders galloped into the square, their horses covered in dust from a long journey.

The leader raised his hand.

"Halt!"

The horses stopped at once.

The crowd stared in fearful silence.

The riders wore traveling cloaks, and each carried a sword at his side—not drawn, but clearly visible.

The leader removed his hood.

He was an older man with silver hair and piercing eyes.

"I seek the village elder," he announced.

Joram stepped forward cautiously.

"I am Joram."

The stranger bowed respectfully.

"My name is Nathan. We have come from the northern provinces."
Joram frowned.

"Why have you traveled so far?"

Nathan looked around the crowd.

"We have heard disturbing reports."

"What reports?" someone asked.

"That a young woman has received a message calling the people back to righteousness."

The villagers exchanged nervous glances.

Malachi, standing near the back of the crowd, stiffened.

Nathan continued.

"In every village we passed, people spoke of the same thing."

"They said hope is returning."

"But not everyone welcomes hope."

Hadassah stepped forward.

"I am Hadassah."

Nathan looked at her with quiet surprise.

"So... it is true."

He reached into his saddlebag and carefully removed a small bundle wrapped in linen.

"I was instructed to deliver this only to the keeper of the scroll."

The crowd gasped.

"You know about the scroll?" Joram asked.

Nathan nodded.

"There are others."

The words spread through the crowd like wildfire.

"Others?" several villagers repeated.

Nathan carefully unfolded the linen.

Inside was a small stone tablet engraved with ancient symbols.

"It is said that long ago, these were separated for protection."

He looked directly at Hadassah.

"The scroll is only one part of a greater message."

Before anyone could respond—

A sharp whistle echoed from the edge of the village.

Nathan's face changed instantly.

"No..."

One of his riders shouted,

"Captain! Look!"

Smoke.

Dark smoke.

It was rising from the western fields.

A frightened farmer came running.

"They're burning the crops!"

Panic swept through the crowd.

Women screamed.

Men grabbed buckets of water.

Children cried.

Hadassah stared toward the smoke.

"Who would do this?"

Nathan's expression grew grim.

"Someone who wants fear to silence faith."

His eyes slowly moved across the crowd...
..until they rested on Malachi.

For only a moment.

But Malachi quickly looked away.

The flames climbed higher into the morning sky.

As everyone rushed toward the fields, Hadassah remained behind.

She looked down at the scroll in one hand...
..and the stone tablet in the other.

Both suddenly began to glow.

Then, for the first time, the symbols on the tablet matched the writing on the scroll.

A new sentence appeared.

"The first trial has begun. Stand firm, for truth will be tested by fire."

Hadassah's heart raced.

This was no ordinary attack.

Someone had declared war—not just against the village...
..but against the message itself.

And hidden on a nearby hill, a cloaked figure watched the flames rise into the sky.
A faint smile crossed his face.

"The game," he whispered,

"has only just begun."

WHEN HEAVEN WENT SILENT
Chapter 7: The Night of Decision

Inspired by biblical themes.

The village was unusually quiet.

The council's judgment had spread from house to house. Some believed Hadassah was chosen by God. Others whispered that she had deceived the people with clever stories.

Inside her family's small home, Hadassah sat alone.

The ancient scroll rested on a wooden table before her.

She had not opened it since returning from the council.

Fear gripped her heart.

"What if they're right?" she whispered. "What if I misunderstood everything?"
She bowed her head and prayed.

"Lord, if this is truly Your will, give me the courage to obey You. But if I have been deceived, stop me before I lead others astray."

For several moments, there was only silence.

Then a gentle breeze entered through the window.

The flame of the oil lamp flickered.

The scroll slowly began to glow again.

Hadassah stared in amazement.

A new line appeared on the parchment.

"Do not fear those who reject the truth. Fear only abandoning what is right."

Tears filled her eyes.

She knew what she had to do.

The next morning, word spread that the entire village would gather in the marketplace before sunset.

Some came out of curiosity.

Others came to mock.

Many simply wanted answers.

Joram stood before the crowd.

"Today," he announced, "Hadassah claims to carry a message of hope. Let everyone hear what she has to say."

A murmur swept through the people.

Hadassah slowly stepped forward.

Her knees felt weak.

Her hands trembled.

Across the crowd, she noticed Malachi watching her with folded arms.

He was waiting for her to fail.

She took a deep breath.

"My people," she began softly, "I am not here because I am greater than anyone."

The crowd became quiet.

"I am only a young woman who continued praying when many had lost hope."

An elderly woman wiped tears from her eyes.

Hadassah continued.

"The message I received is not one of condemnation. It is a call to return to truth, mercy, justice, and faith."

Some nodded.

Others remained unconvinced.

Just then, Malachi interrupted.

"If your message is truly from God..."

He pointed toward the dark clouds gathering over the hills.

"...then ask God to prove it."

The crowd turned toward Hadassah.

She lowered her head.

"I cannot command God to perform signs."

Malachi laughed loudly.

"You see? She has no proof!"

Several people began murmuring.

Hadassah closed her eyes.

She whispered a simple prayer.

"Lord, let Your will be done—not mine."

At that very moment...

A powerful wind swept across the marketplace.

The dark clouds parted.

Golden sunlight broke through and shone directly upon the ancient scroll in Hadassah's hands.

The parchment glowed with brilliant light.

Another message appeared before everyone's eyes.

"Blessed are those who seek truth with humble hearts, for they shall not walk in darkness."

The marketplace fell silent.

No one could explain what they had just witnessed.

Even Joram stepped back in astonishment.

But Malachi's face hardened.

Instead of believing, his anger grew stronger.

He quietly turned and walked away.

As he disappeared into a narrow street, a hooded messenger emerged from the shadows.

"You've chosen the path of pride," the stranger warned.

Malachi replied coldly,

"Then let pride finish what faith has started."

The stranger watched him leave.

Deep in his heart, he knew something terrible was about to unfold.

Far away, beyond the hills, horsemen rode toward the village under the cover of darkness.

No one in the marketplace knew they were coming.

And by the next sunrise, the peace of the village would be shattered forever.
