IS IT OKAY FOR TEACHERS TO BECOME TOO FAMILIAR WITH STUDENTS?
This is a question every teacher should sit down and answer.
Here’s my take as Teacher Bright 👇
1. FEAR IS NOT THE GOAL
A teacher shouldn't be feared.
But a teacher MUST be respected at all times.
And respect is commanded, not demanded.
2. FRIENDLY ≠ FAMILIAR
We must learn to be friendly with our learners.
Let them know you care. Let them ask questions.
But friendliness should never cross into "we are now buddies" territory.
3. BALANCE IS EVERYTHING
The job is to balance 2 things:
Warmth + Discipline
Kindness + Strictness
When you get the balance right, students learn better and classroom control becomes easier.
Students don’t need another friend.
They need a teacher who is approachable, but still holds the line.
What do you think teachers?
Where do you draw the line between being friendly and being too familiar?
