MY EDUCATION, MY DESTINY

I was just 19 years old when an abroad husband came and married me.

Before then, the only time I ever saw him was during December, when he came home for his father’s chieftaincy title. That was when our paths crossed. Everyone around me kept saying I was a good girl, fresh from secondary school, well-behaved, respectful.

He said he liked me, that I was young, vibrant, bright, and he would like to marry me.

I looked at him and told him plainly, “I want to go to school. I don’t want to be illiterate.”

He smiled and assured me, “Don’t worry, I will train you. Rest assured, I will support your education.”

When I told my parents, they said it was a good idea since he promised to train me. My friends too said, “At least, if he marries you, he will carry you abroad. Imagine studying nursing and traveling, life will be easy for you.”

That was how I accepted. My dream was to be a nurse.

But immediately after marriage, everything changed. He told me he had a lot to fix abroad, so he would travel back while I stayed behind and went to school. I agreed. I didn’t know I was already pregnant.

At first, I thought it was malaria. I told my mother-in-law one morning, “Mama, I feel feverish, I want to buy malaria drugs.”

The way her face lit up with a smile confused me.

“My daughter, you don’t just treat malaria anyhow again. You are married now,” she said.

Then she added softly, *“Please, I don’t want anything to happen to my grandchild.”

“Grandchild? Which grandchild?” I asked, shocked.

She insisted on taking me for a test, and it turned out positive. That was the beginning of my agony.

I couldn’t go to school again. The pregnancy hit me hard, fever, vomiting, constant weakness. My husband had already traveled, and the little money he sent always passed through his family. By the time everyone took their share, what reached me was barely enough. They would say, “You are living in the family house, you are not the one cooking or feeding anybody. Manage this.”

I endured. I gave birth to my first child in that house. Still, I begged my husband for privacy, at least a flat where I could stay with my child and welcome my own mother if she wanted to visit.

He refused. “Stay with my family, they will keep an eye on you,” he said.

I didn’t know if it was distrust or control, but I obeyed.

Three years passed before I saw my husband again. By then, I was already a mother of one. When he returned, I cried out, “What about my life? My school? My future?”

He told me to calm down. He promised, again, that I would study nursing abroad, that my certificate would be better there. Out of naivety, I believed. We spent time together, and I got pregnant again.

It became a cycle. See my husband once every three years, carry another pregnancy, raise another child. Meanwhile, I was stuck in Nigeria, stripped of my dreams, while he lived freely abroad. People would see me and admire, *“Her husband is abroad oh,”* but they didn’t know my tears at night. They didn’t know I felt like a baby-making factory.

One afternoon, I was in the kitchen stirring stew when I overheard my mother-in-law on a call with him.

“How is Sasha? How is Anderson? How is Tochukwu? Hope my grandsons are bouncing?” she asked.

Her voice was soft, almost secretive, and she kept peeping into the kitchen door to check if I was listening.

My hands froze on the spoon. My heart dropped. Who were Sasha and Anderson? Why was she asking about them as if they were family?

That was the day I realized the bitter truth: my husband had married another woman abroad. I was only a camouflage wife, kept in Nigeria to produce children for his family name.

That night, I broke down. I asked myself, “Is this how my life will be wasted? Waiting for a man who only returns every three years with empty promises?”

When I finally summoned courage to talk to him on the phone about my wasted years, I poured my heart out:

“Five years have passed. You promised me education, a future. All I have are children and broken promises. Don’t you see you’ve wasted my life?”

Instead of remorse, his voice came sharp and dismissive.

“You’re not even happy that I married a village girl like you? Do you think a graduate like me would have ever settled down with you if not for the urge to marry someone at home?”

My chest burned. I held the phone tight, my heart pounding, tears stinging my eyes. That was the moment everything became clear to me—I was never his priority. To him, I was just a convenience, a placeholder.

That night, I made a decision. I told myself, No more. My life will not remain in his shadow.

And that was the beginning of my turnaround.

I packed my things and decided I was leaving. Come and see American wonder. Come and see drama.

My mother-in-law and sister in law's stood gidigbam and said,

“If you leave this house, we will come and collect our dowry. Aren’t you happy that we’re taking care of you?”

She kept ranting, but I paid deaf ears to her.

My plan was just to leave and get myself first. Get a job and start something with my life. But when she kept threatening me, I made up my mind, I was leaving and nothing was stopping me.

My kids insisted they were leaving with me.

After much drama, my father-in-law decided they should let me go.

I went with my kids, and I told my mother-in-law that they could always come pick them up. I was never denying them access to their sons.

I left and stayed with my parents, despite them being against it.

Moreover, I don’t know the agreement my husband had with their family, but they came and collected my dowry the next day after I left.

That was when I took my destiny into my own hands. I found a job.

Quietly, I applied for nursing school after a year. I juggled school and work. It wasn’t easy, but every night I told myself, *Better to suffer now for a future I can own, than suffer forever in bo***ge.

There were days I cried, but after crying, I would wipe my tears and continue with life.

Years later, I graduated. I got a good job. I raised my children with my own hands. I didn’t deny them access to their father because he hurt me, not them. But I no longer depended on him.

And life has a funny way of turning around. His marriage abroad eventually crashed. The wife discovered he had me here and took him to court, divorced him, and turned his children against him.

Broken, he returned to Nigeria, begging me to forgive him.

Even the mother kept begging,
“Ka akpo ife niile Tara n’ayasi awuta.” (Let’s call everything that bites in the night mosquito.)

But I said no.

I beg your pardon, everything that bites in the night is not mosquito. Some are witches who come into your life to delay you and make you a nobody.

But by then, I had moved on. I told him plainly, “Go and collect your dowry from your family. They’ve collected it for you years ago. I have no space for you in my life anymore.”

By then, I was already in a new relationship, standing tall, independent, and fulfilled.

I met him at the hospital. He loved me and appreciated me for who I was. Sometimes love can find you even in places you never thought it would be.

Moral of the Story

Don’t let anyone put your life on hold while they live theirs. Marriage should not be the end of your dreams. If you have a passion, pursue it. If you have children, love them but don’t lose yourself in the process.

A woman’s life does not end at childbirth. She can rise, she can study, she can work, and she can thrive.

Of Donkeys 🐮 and Zebras 🩓

Of all the children of the King, there was one on whom he invested time and exerted influence to ensure that he became prominent early in life
The King knew the oracle would be the one to choose the next ruler of the kingdom, who would rule after him, but what is the oracle but men?
The oracle does not determine who rules the land; men do
Men, under the guise of divinity, determine the rulership of their fellow men
It has been so from time immemorial
If you tell men you are choosing a leader for them. They will insist you had been bribed or had been compromised in a certain way
However, if you tell them the same leader was chosen for them by God or the ancestors or deities, and you shroud the process in a mystery, they will accept your verdict without any challenge.
The king had over a hundred children from over forty wives
It was one of the duties of the king to perpetuate his genes
As soon as each child was delivered, the oracle spoke concerning the child’s future, and he noticed that the voice of the oracle changed from season to season depending on the number of children he had
His first child was widely celebrated, but nobody bothered about his 20th child
By the time he had his 80th child, it had almost become “one of those things” in the palace
This also made him realise that the oracle was moved by a sense of occasion and led by human activities
He had always suspected the “gods” were men designated to control the affairs of other men behind the scenes, and this suspicion was confirmed by several experiences he had as a young man and during his reign as a king
Some of his children were destined for greatness, and some were destined to do not-so-great things
It was his duty to watch over them and, through a process of selection, support the ones that could one day sit on his throne
The process of selection started with the mother of the child
What was her lineage, what sort of training did she have, and how has she been able to cope with raising the children as royalty despite his absence
He had money and fame, but the mindset with which a woman raises her children matters
Some of his children grew up as delinquents, and some grew up disciplined
It all boils down to the mother and the way she raised them
Of all his children, some stood out academically
This was expected, and he paid attention to those ones so that they could maximize their potential.
Of all his brilliant children, one got a fully funded scholarship to study in the USA, and this made his heart very glad
A day before the prince would travel to the USA, the king called his mother and the prince into his room and had a heart-to-heart talk with them
He said, “God has lifted you early, you are heading to the USA at the age of 14 to study in one of the most prestigious universities, and you did it without my influence or the strength of your name or heritage. You did it all by yourself. This gives me confidence that you will one day be prepared more than most to lead this kingdom if you choose to do so. The oracles track the rising of meteors and support which of the stars would make it fat; never forget this. As soon as you begin to make good money, come home and begin the process of becoming a king.
The process is simple; establish a trust fund and a scholarship scheme for students in the kingdom, be deliberate in selecting the children of the kingmakers and chiefs among the beneficiaries
Do a lot of community projects and establish your name in the heart of the established authorities within the kingdom
This is how you convince the oracle and the deities, and God, to select you as the one who will rule after me.
Do this as benevolence and without any sense of entitlement. When you speak, do so as someone who is patriotic and only desires to show your love for the kingdom
Make sure they can only talk about what they have benefited from you, and ask them for nothing
Visit them, but always in a bid to be a blessing to them
They will dream of you, and they will think of you
This is what it will take in your time to become the King
Don’t worry, I will also plant the seed of your kingship in their hearts!”
The prince took the words of his father to heart
When he got to the United States, he studied hard and by the age of twenty, he had landed a job with one of the top defence contractors
Money started rolling in, and he was swift to implement the things his father told him
More than anything, he desired to rule the kingdom one day, and he knew he would get that opportunity only once
He established a trust fund and several scholarship funds, and several charity organizations to help the citizens of the kingdom
He made sure he travelled to the kingdom at least once every year to meet with the kingmakers, chiefs, and to commission projects for the benefit of the kingdom
The template his father set for him had put him ahead of the curve
His name was on the lips of the kingmakers and the chiefs
His father, the king, would also often delegate state matters to him so that he would be able to demonstrate his competence and wisdom to the world
When he turned thirty, he got married
He chose the most beautiful woman he had ever seen
She was twenty-five, well educated, and she came from his hometown
They met at an event at the American Embassy, and he fell in love with her right from the moment he saw her
He didn’t dilly-dally; he married her within a year
His father loved his wife like a daughter, and the community took to her like their future queen
He delegated the duty of managing his NGOs, charities, scholarships, and endowments to her
She was an accountant, and he trusted her to manage his funds judiciously
His annual trips home were womanishly stopped by his wife
She wanted to spend his annual vacations with him in exotic places all over the world
He didn’t know the damage that had been done until he got a message from his father four years after he got married
His father said he must return to the kingdom immediately
When he got to the kingdom, his father told him that the kingmakers, chiefs, and the communities in the kingdom had consulted the oracle and decided that he should marry a zebra instead of a donkey, and as long as he was married to the same woman, he would never become king in the future.
It was a shocking revelation
When he got back to the USA, he asked his wife what she had done to incur the wrath of his father and the community
His wife told him it was because they were all taking advantage of him, and he stopped them from doing so
He was shocked
He asked her what she meant, and she told him
She said she decided to save all the funds he kept sending to her to fund the charities, NGOs, Scholarships, and endowment funds because she could see no value in return for his huge investment
She had invested the funds in some major USA stocks so that they could generate more money for him
He almost went mad, and his wife did not understand why
All she did was plug the holes she saw in his finances
She felt he should be thanking her
He told him the community and the kingdom had rejected her as their queen and told him to divorce her
She thought it was a joke until he moved out of the house and told her to move within two weeks because he had decided to sell the house
She got a lawyer
He had made his money before meeting her, but she had used her expertise to save him millions of dollars
He had also helped to bring five of her relatives into the USA, and they were all employed with his companies
He exploited this to force her hand in settling out of court
He said he would deport all her relatives unless he took the case out of court and stopped trying to take his wealth
The negotiations were dirty and emotionally jarring
While they were still sorting out who got what, his father died, and the throne became empty
The kingmakers called for interested princes to throw their hats into the ring
He did so, alongside eight other princes
He was the frontliner for the throne for many years, but by the time his father died, he was almost no longer in contention
He had no wife and this was one of the criteria by which kings were chosen
The stunt his ex-wife pulled with the endowments and scholarships had turned the people against him
Another prince had stepped into the void he left by supporting the needy and destitute in the community
The oracle chose this other prince just as his father predicted.

PS: Royalty is a lifestyle, and it is also a culture
The way the royally minded think is very different from the way a commoner thinks
When royalty marries a commoner, the commoner must learn the way of royalty and master it without any reservation
Zebras may look and act like donkeys, but they are not the same.

TWO GOODS DON'T SOMETIMES MAKE RIGHT

Many years back, a friend lost someone good. She had been with him through the struggling years. Patient, loyal, hopeful. But every time she brought up the future
 he dodged it.
Not because he didn’t love her, but because he wasn’t ready.

He had dreams to chase, money to make, pieces of himself he was still figuring out....and each time she brought up marriage, he’d say, “Just give me time.”

Eventually, she stopped asking.
Then one day, she said she couldn’t wait anymore.

She left. She broke up with him because he said he wasn’t ready.
Not ready for a relationship that was leading somewhere, not ready for commitment, not ready for the kind of future she wanted.

He didn’t cheat. He didn’t lie. He just wasn’t ready, and he told her honestly.
She left, not out of anger, but understanding. She had waited long enough, she needed more, so she moved on.

At the time, he believed she’d come back. That after some time away, she'd realize how much they had and return.
But she didn’t.
She met someone new, fell in love again, got married, and from the looks of things, she’s doing just fine.
Still glowing, still kind and still growing.

Now here’s the thing...

He’s also doing well. He’s grown since then, learned a lot, still not perfect, but better. He’s still working on himself, and that’s okay too.

There was no villain in their story. No one was wrong, no one failed.

It’s just...life.

People don’t always stay where you leave them.

Sometimes, they go on to become everything you imagined, just not with you.
And that’s not a punishment. It’s not karma, it’s just timing.

Not every loss is meant to humble you.

Sometimes, it’s just two people whose paths are no longer aligned and that’s fine.

The truth is, someone can leave you and still succeed. They can leave you and still be happy.

Just like you can be left and still grow, still evolve, still love again.

Nobody has to lose for life to move forward. Some endings are simply redirections, not regrets.

So if someone ever walks away from you because you weren’t ready, don’t spend the rest of your life trying to prove something.

Heal, grow, learn...and when you're finally ready, be ready for the next person, not bitter about the last.

I was once invited for a program and when they shared the flyer with me they had my picture on it. I had to beg them to please edit it and remove my picture. You all know that I dont consider digital images as tasweer and as such have no problem with digital pictures, so I was not even coming from a fiqh angle. I just personally dont like my image splashed all over the place giving one undue popularity and fame. It is just a personal principle.

One of the reasons I wrote my book Pubescence in my Kunya (Abu Imrān) and not my real name was that I wanted Abu Imrān to be as popular as it can get while I can still be as unknown as is possible. Despite not knowing me in person, people have trusted me with things you can't fathom. Quality can build a name for you that even your face will only dream of!

Dear Sisters, by Allāh, you will attain what has been written for you without seeking to be known by abandoning that which you have come to hold dear as a principle. It is not until you remove your niqab or make videos shaking your body, or attach your images and videos to your products before you sell or become known on this space. The mindset that your femininity itself is promotional already defeats the purpose of a hijab. Dr Khadijah Tijani and Dr Rasheedah F Famurewa are women whose faces we have never seen, but they remain very relevant in our circles! You don't have to throw away your moral code to court people's attention Dear sister, may Allāh perfect your affairs.

One of the very first disease you have to protect yourself from on social media is the unhinged desire to be famous. If Allāh wants to make you famous you can't stop it, but don't actively pursue it. This doesn't stop you from pushing out your products or whatever is beneficial to us, but keep to a private life as much as you can, and this applies to everyone, male and female. Many of the fears you have that if you stick strictly to your moral convictions you will miss out on opportunities in the dunya come from the whispers of shaitan.
May Allāh rectify our affairs.

Abu Imrān

The Seat Filler

He reached out to her out of the blue
They had known each other for over two years
He spoke to her as a man talks to a woman he wants to have a relationship with
She expressed her shock
She had never considered him as a marital prospect
He was an alpha male surrounded by many females in his own circle
She does not even fit into the picture of his kind of crowd.

He was quite ahead of her in many things
Financially, he was very stable
She knew when his wife died and how much she loved his ex-wife
She knew he had mourned for two years
She just never expected that she would be the one he would consider for a remarriage
She was single, forty years old, and had never been married before
She was also quite beautiful, and men were always trooping in and out of her life
She said she would like to think about his proposal.

He was forty-three, and he needed to get married and put his home in order
His children had been in the care of maids and nannies since his wife died
He didn’t need a wife to babysit or care for the children, but he needed a wife who could instruct the employees and help monitor them while he traveled for work.
He told her he would wait patiently for her to make her decision
Two days later, she called him and asked him to run a medical check-up with complete screening of his vitals, and also for sexually transmitted infections
He did the test, and he was squeaky clean
She sent him her results, too and she was clean, too

Then she asked for his financial statements and investment portfolio
He sent it to her

She said she needed to be sure he was not flaunting prosperity while living in debt
She also asked him about his family
Would his mother be living with them or how often would she be visiting
he told her he had built a house for his mother, and his mother had her own life there
His mother only came into his life to help supervise his children’s minders because he didn’t want to leave the children to total strangers
She asked about his will
Would he make one in which what he would give her would be spelled out clearly because he had made his money before meeting her, and she cannot claim they sweated and suffered together to make his wealth
She said she didn’t want to get thrown out on her head and be seen as a gold digger in case something happened to him
He told her he would give her her own inheritance on the day of the wedding, regardless of whether the marriage works out or not.

The properties would be in her name, and she would take control of them by herself from the outset
He also told her the richer he got, the more he would add to her assets so that she would not need to share anything with the children or relatives in the main will he had already prepared.

She told him she would like to pray about it some more
Two days later, she invited him on a date
He went to the meeting, and they had a very happy and lighthearted discussion
After the date, she told him she came with a UBER and would like to go home with him
He said he does not want to introduce any woman to his children unless he is sure he is marrying the woman.

"Your siblings shouldn’t be living in your matrimonial home o."

When women say this, they mean your siblings, not their own siblings.

What I would tell you is this, remember the home you come from before you let woman scatter your family. If there is no love in her family, that is her personal problem. If there is love in your own family, protect it

Some of you, your family poured everything into you, and now you have opportunity to help your siblings. You know what to do. Remember the love you've always shared. You should not be marrying from a loveless family anyway.

It is not everything your small money can solve. Sometimes, your sibling needs accommodation in Abuja or Lagos where you live, because your family live in Ekiti or Enugu. They need to stay with you to hustle before they can get their own place. It is not the N40k you send home that will help them. If they don't live with you, can you rent and furnish another apartment for them?

Some of you lost your parents and you grew up with relations that were not kind. You have gotten your own place and you need to take your sibling away from there so their mental health can be alright while they look for job. Will you abandon them there? Some of you already live with your siblings before marriage. The moment you enter relationship/marriage, your woman wants to send them out knowing fully well, they have nowhere to go.

Don't copy other people. Know the family you come from and your financial reality. The country is getting harder, and everyone needs help. Some of us do not have siblings that need to live with us because they are alright. You do not have that privilege. Women do not abandon their family. Do not abandon your own

Remember the ties of kingship.

Your siblings children might be the helper of your children tomorrow.

*Knowledge is key*
*What is the biological phenomenon that appears in human gradual loss of muscle mass, strength and function when they are growing older?*

This is known as *Sarcopenia*!

*Sarcopenia* is a gradual loss of muscle mass, strength and function... the loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength as a result of aging... The situation may be terrible, depends on individual.

Let's explore & analyze multiple ways to prevent *sarcopenia* thus:
1. Develop the habit, if you're able to stand... just don't sit, and don't lie down if you can sit!

2. Whenever an elderly person falls ill, and get admitted to the hospital, do not ask him/her for more rest, or to lie down, relax and/or not get out of bed... It's not helpful. Help them take a walk... Except if they lost stamina to do so.

Lying down for a week causes loss of at least 5% of muscle mass! And unfortunately, the elderly can't recover the loss muscles!

Usually, most seniors/elderly who hire assistants loses muscle faster than the active ones!

3. *Sarcopenia* is more terrifying than osteoporosis!

With osteoporosis, one just need to be careful not to fall, while sarcopenia not only affects the quality of life but also causes high blood sugar due to insufficient muscle mass!

4. The fastest loss of muscles (atrophy) is through idleness in muscles of the legs...

Because when in sitting or lying position, the legs do not move, and the strength of the muscles of the legs are directly affected... This is especially important to pay unto utmost attention!

Going up and down stairs... walking, running and cycling are all great exercises, and can increase muscle mass!

For a better quality of life at old age... Move... & don't waste your muscles!!

Aging starts from the feet upwards!

Keep your legs active and strong!!

â–Ș As we grow older on a daily basis, our feet should always stay active and strong.

If you don't move your legs for just 2 weeks, your real leg strength will decrease by 10 years.

Therefore, *regular exercises such as walking, cycling etc. are very important*.

The feet are a kind of columns that bear the entire weight of the human body.... So,

*_Walk every day!_*
