The Corona Virus pandemic which forced all schools in Nigeria and the world at large is gradually coming to an end as the decrease in the number of new COVID-19 cases suggests.

Many countries are now recording low cases and have resumed social and economic activities, though with measures put in place to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Many sectors of the economy of many countries, Nigeria inclusive suffered heavily and some are even heading to a recession. In Nigeria businesses and some other activities have resumed, but schooling and education have not fully resumed.



Schools in the country were shut down early March to prevent the spread of the Virus and since then, only exit students have been allowed to resume.

After much clamoring and appealing, the Federal government then approved the preparation and resumption for school resumption, though not stating any dates itself.



State governments already announced dates for school resumption in their respective states and this brought a glimmer of hope for students in non-exit classes.

Since then, there have been many events and announcements which were made to update students, pupils, and Nigerians in general on school resumption. These announcements reveal how school resumption will take place and what will happen when schools resume.

For the purpose of public enlightenment, these announcements have been compiled and they also include the latest updates on when schools resume.

According, to the information acquired from Vanguard news outlet, Commissioner for Education in Lagos State, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, announced that schools in the state would resume educational activities in phases.

Lagos Has Approved School Term Resumption Dates:

First Term 2020/2021 Begins on 21st September, 2020.



Second Term 2020/2021 Begins on eleventh January, 2020.

Third Term 2020/2021 Begins on third May, 2020.

Here is How The Breakdown of Activities Looks Like Below:

2020/2021 Academic Session

*1st Term*

Begins: Monday September 21st - Friday eighteenth December, 2020.(13 Weeks)Mid-Term: To be reported occasions: It will be announced.

*2nd Term*

Begins: Monday eleventh January to Friday ninth April 2021 (13 Weeks)Mid-Term Break: Will Be Announced.

*3rd Term*

Begins: 3rd of May to 30th July 2021, Mid-Term Break: Will Be Announced.

However, The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology urges all partners and individuals from the general public to observe the subtleties of the scholarly schedule.

COVID-19 PROTOCOL FOR WORSHIP CENTRES (ISLAM) AFTER RE-OPENING
Only Jumat services are allowed to hold in the State.
The khutbah and Solat Jumah should be kept within one hour duration.
Short lectures of not more than 30 minutes could hold before or after the Friday prayers.
Other educational programmes – Arabic classes, Special lectures and Assalatu sessions would still be on hold for the first eight (8) weeks after re-opening.
Fifty percent (50%) of worshippers are allowed per Solat depending on the size of the Mosque.
Mosque should keep a register for regular attendees for contact tracing in case of any discovery of affected person.
Social gatherings such as marriages, naming ceremonies, burials etc must take cognizance of social distancing precaution and other related COVID-19 protocols with a maximum of 50 people.
There should be no use of air conditioners and all windows must be opened.
Worshippers should wash their hands with soap and water before performing ablution proper and should use hand sanitizers after Solat.
Mosque should ensure that all removable rugs and carpets are put aside for the time being and the irremovable ones must be washed and disinfected regularly.
Worshippers and all Mosques visitors must use face masks.
Physical distancing should be taken into cognizance in all religious interactions while COVID-19 lasts i.e. Two (2) meters distance horizontally and vertically.
Worshippers above 65 years are discouraged from attending worship. However, should they attend, they should be given special considerations on the rows and positioning during Solat/worship.
Children aged 12 and below should pray at home after re-opening.
Worshippers should leave the Mosque not later than one hour after completion of Jumat prayers
Regular decontamination of the Mosques should be carried out from time to time.
External loud speakers should only be used for call to prayers
