Yesterday, I assessed a boy who is about to turn 8 years old, that had just resumed classes with us. It was sad to see a child at that age struggling with 3-letter words. My team member, who initially assessed him, had told me about his difficulty in reading, but I didn't know just how bad it was. We've started working on him, and I believe God that very soon, there'll be significant improvement in his reading.

Parents, if your child has been in a school or under a private tutor and you're not seeing changes, why not try another? That is, if you're sure the problem is from the school or tutor. Most times, people quickly conclude that the child has a learning impairment. Don't let anyone convince you that your child has a learning disability if your child has not been diagnosed by a specialist.

I've seen children who were previously marked as 'learning impaired' thrive under a passionate tutor and supportive environment. If you're not sure about what level of fluency your child should possess at a particular age, just ask Google.

The earlier reading defects are identified and tackled, the better for your child.

Parents, please ensure your children brush their teeth every day. Yesterday, we checked our pupil's teeth after the morning assembly, and I noticed some children's teeth were in very bad condition. There was a girl who had more than six of hers completely gone - decayed, with holes, I wondered if her parents checked her teeth at all. I felt really bad for another child, whose mouth looked like it wasn't cleaned that morning.

Children on their own cannot care for their teeth. I have had to sometimes ask my children to brush their teeth again after they've 'brushed'. It's important to help them develop proper dental hygiene, and when they're monitored, they grow up with that consciousness and it becomes a habit.

I know some children have underlying health conditions that might make them prone to dental issues; in such instances, the help of a dentist can be sought to help manage the situation.

Do you know that the appearance of your child's teeth can either boost or crash his/her confidence? Please make your child's dental hygiene a priority from today.

I struggled with mathematics as a child, so most times in Secondary school, it was with a small margin that I escaped maths after a test or exam. The concepts seemed too complex for me to decipher, so when I wrote Waec, I narrowly made a credit in Maths 🤓.

The funny thing was that, despite my struggles in maths, I actually loved the subject. I gave it more time during my personal study, but still got low grades.

Fast forward to my first semester in Laspotech, now Lasustech, I met a lecturer who did the impossible. He was my Business Maths Lecturer, his name was Mr Shogunro.

That man made mathematics come to life . Mathematics no longer looked abstract, I began to understand basic Mathematical concepts which before that time, didn't seem to make sense.

Guess what, my score in maths soared, imagine me getting A in Business Maths. Yes ! yours truly started getting distinction in Business Maths. Mathematics finally began to make sense, that became a turning point in my life.

Today, I teach mathematics to kids aged 3- 12
with passion- online and offline. It is done with passion, knowing that a strong foundation can give them a solid start. I ensure that, any child that crosses my path does not have to struggle in maths, like I did.

A new school term is a fresh chapter—and the perfect time to inspire a love for learning in your child. For children aged 3 to 12, curiosity is natural. With the right support, that curiosity can grow into confidence and a genuine excitement for learning.

Start by creating a calm and cozy space at home where your child can read, explore, and ask questions freely. Make learning part of everyday life—reading a recipe, spotting shapes on a walk, or solving a little puzzle together.

Celebrate their effort more than just the outcome. Children thrive when they feel supported, not pressured. Show them that making mistakes is part of growing.

Be their role model. Let them see you enjoying a book, trying something new, or learning alongside them. Your attitude toward learning will shape theirs.

And remember—your presence matters. Whether it's asking about their day or sharing a short story, every moment of engagement helps build a positive attitude toward school and life.

Let’s make this term one of growth, joy, and discovery—together.

Balancing Rest and Learning This Holiday: A Guide for Parents with Kids Aged 3–12

The holidays are a precious time for children to relax, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved fun. But it can also be a golden opportunity to keep their minds engaged—gently and joyfully!

Here’s how you can help your child balance rest and study this break:

1. Set a Gentle Routine
Children thrive on structure. Try setting aside just 20–30 minutes a day for light educational activities. It could be a fun reading session, a quick math game, or writing a holiday journal.

2. Make Learning Playful
Use board games, puzzles, or storytelling to reinforce key concepts without it feeling like “study time.”

3. Celebrate Small Wins
Whether your child spells a new word or solves a tricky sum, celebrate it! Positive reinforcement builds confidence and keeps motivation high.

4. Get Support When You Need It
You don’t have to do it all alone.

5. Prioritise Rest and Bonding
Rest is just as important as study. Take time for cuddles, walks, and family games. A well-rested child is more open to learning.

This holiday, let’s aim for balance—rest, fun, and just the right amount of learning.
