Know your genotype before marriage. Marry wisely. A simple test today can help prevent the inheritance of serious genetic conditions such as Sickle cell disease in your children. Love is important, but informed decisions protect families. Get tested, know your genotype, and plan your future responsibly.
For reference, common genotype combinations include:
AA × AA → No risk of children with SS.
AA × AS → No children with SS, but some may inherit AS.
AS × AS → Each pregnancy has a 25% chance of SS.
AS × SS → Higher risk of children with SS.
SS × SS → All children will inherit SS.
Knowing your genotype before marriage or having children is an important part of informed family planning, especially in regions where sickle cell trait is common. Couples can also benefit from genetic counseling to better understand their options.
