Quebec has announced a new minimum wage increase, and it will take effect on May 1, 2026.
The general minimum wage will rise from $16.10 to $16.60 per hour, representing a $0.50 increase. This adjustment is expected to impact hundreds of thousands of workers across the province and forms part of Quebec’s ongoing effort to gradually raise wages in response to economic conditions and cost of living.
For full-time workers, this increase may translate to a modest improvement in annual earnings. The update also includes changes for other categories of workers. Tipped employees will see their hourly wage increase, and there are revised rates for certain agricultural workers, reflecting sector-specific adjustments.
Overall, Quebec has maintained a pattern of steady minimum wage growth over the years, moving from significantly lower levels in the past decade to the current rate. This signals a continued effort to balance worker income with economic sustainability.
For anyone considering working or settling in Quebec, wage levels are an important part of understanding what to expect for long-term planning and stability.

Express Entry applicants; this change affects you.
A lot of people are still applying the old way and getting caught off guard. Canada changed the rules on August 21, 2025, and if you don't know about this update, it could seriously delay your PR.
You can no longer submit your PR application and wait to do your medical exam later. Your Immigration Medical Exam (IME) has to be done before you apply. No exam, no complete application. It's that simple.
And it's not just you, your spouse, your kids, and any family member on your application needs to do it too. Even if they're not moving to Canada with you.
🔁 Share this with someone who is planning to apply for PR. You might save them a lot of stress.

Studying in Canada can support a long-term immigration plan, but it is not automatic.
A more realistic pathway involves completing an eligible program, securing work authorization, gaining Canadian work experience, and then qualifying for a PR program such as Express Entry or a provincial pathway.
Recent trends also show increased scrutiny on applications, which makes early planning even more important.
You can't afford mistakes in these processes, let us help you. Comment VISA and we'll reach out to you with more info.

Canada has removed the co-op work permit requirement for many international students
Starting April 1, 2026, eligible post-secondary international students can now complete mandatory internships, co-op placements, and practicums using only their study permit, without needing to apply for a separate co-op work permit.
Before this change, students whose programs required work placements had to hold both a study permit and a co-op work permit. That extra step often caused delays, especially when the placement was time-sensitive. With this update, the process is now simpler and faster for students whose programs include required work-integrated learning.
However, this does not apply to all types of work. The placement must be a mandatory part of the academic program and approved by the student’s designated learning institution (DLI). Students may still need to provide documentation from their school confirming that the work component is required to complete their studies.
It’s also important to note that this change does not expand general work rights. It only removes the need for a separate permit in specific cases.
Overall, this is a procedural change designed to reduce delays and simplify compliance for international students, not a policy that increases how much or where students can work.
