From learning sounds to reading sentences fluently!

Watching a child confidently read a story after developing strong phonics skills is such a rewarding moment.

When children understand letter sounds, blending and decoding, they don't have to guess every word—they can work out unfamiliar words and become more confident readers.

This is why I always say:

Today’s board work is all about blending and reading CVC words ending in -en.

Learning opposites is a fun and important part of every ESL journey!

In today's lesson, we explored opposite words like:

Learning to read becomes much easier when children learn word families!

Today's board writing focuses on the "AT" CVC word family. Once children can read one word like "cat", they can quickly decode many others such as "bat, hat, mat, rat, pat, sat," and "fat". This helps build phonics skills, confidence, and reading fluency.

💡 Try this at home:
✅ Say each letter sound.
✅ Blend the sounds together.
✅ Read each word.
✅ Think of a sentence using your favourite -AT- word.

Consistent practice with word families is one of the best ways to help early readers become confident readers.

Today we're practicing CVC words with the short o and short u sounds. These simple words help children strengthen their phonics, blending, spelling, and reading skills.

When children can hear each sound, blend them together, and read the whole word, they're building the foundation for confident reading.

Examples:
🔸 Short o: hot, pot, mop, top, dog, log, box
🔸 Short u: sun, bug, cup, bus, rug, nut, tub
