*DELIGHTS AND DESIRES (2)*
*READ: PSALM 73:1-9*
*MEMORISE: Who have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside You (Psalm 73 : 25)*
*EXPOSITION*
To delight in the Lord is to desire to be near Him, to be like the OT saints who cried, _*My soul longs for You like a thirsty land*_ *(Psalm 143 : 6)*. When we delight in the Lord, we come to understand more fully that the nearness of God is for our good, and that a day in His courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. It is far better to be a porter in the house of our God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. Yo delight in the forevermore *(Psa. 16 : 11)*.
Our text today, Psalms 73, admonishes us (Christians) to neither fret, be envious of the wicked not focus on what they have not what they seem to be getting away with, especially, when we are faced with unanswered prayers or disturbed by yet unfulfilled promises. Our focus should be on Jehovah, the great I Am Who promises to _*supply all our needs*_ ( not our wants) _*according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus*_ *(Phil. 4:19)*. His promises never fail when our desires are according to His will and not ours *(Jhn. 15:7)*.
Clarles H. Spurgeon once said, "Who delights in God, desires or asks nothing but what will please God." In other words, as we coverthe presence of God, daily delighting in Him, in His Word, and in prayerful communion with Him, gradually, His Spirit transforms our hearts, so that our desires become His desires. It is those desires He will grant. Indeed, our desires will be His desires when our heart sings, "Take my will and make it Thine. It shall be no longer mine... Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet it's treasure store. Take myself and I will be, ever only, all for Thee!" (Frances Havergal, CACGHB 735).
