My teaching method has a name. I call it:

"Teach me. Help me. Let me do it by myself."

It sounds simple. It isn't.

Most students who come to me are stuck not because they
lack ability, but because somewhere along the way, the
foundation didn't get fully built. They're trying to do
IGCSE-level work on top of unfinished GCSE-level
basics. The work collapses. The student panics. The
grade follows.

So we go back. We find the gap. We patch it.

Then I teach the new concept the way it should have
been taught.

Then we work through problems together. They see how
I think about them.

Then I let them solve on their own. I only step in
when needed.

By the time they sit the exam, they've done it
themselves dozens of times.

Confidence isn't a feeling. It's evidence. We build
the evidence — one solved problem at a time.

Earlier this year, I was featured as a "Kind Leadership
Star" by Joanna Povall — author of "Kind Leadership:
Leading Schools with Compassion, Courage, and Wisdom"
and a respected voice in global educator development.

The nomination came from Kelley Ridings, who works in
educator career growth internationally.

The best testimonial isn't the one a parent writes.
It's the one their child gives without realising it's
a testimonial.

Last week, I thanked one of the parents whose two
daughters I tutor. I told her I knew she'd refer me to
her circle of friends.

Her reply:

"Yes indeed ma, don't you worry about that 😀 it's
coming. In fact, my girls want to keep you to
themselves… they said mummy, don't tell all your
friends about Ms Okafor because that's what you do…
kids thinking 😀"

Two teenagers, doing their IGCSEs, who didn't want
their mum sharing their tutor with anyone else's
children.

No metric in the world captures it better than the
students themselves. When they don't want to share
you, you're doing something right.

Recently, a young woman I once tutored when she was
struggling in physics graduated as a medical doctor.

Dr. Temitayo Olabamiji.

When I first met her, she had moved regions and was
feeling low. She told me, in so many words, that she
didn't believe in herself.

I sat her down and said: "You can be anything you want
to be in life. The only thing that can stop you is
yourself."

She took that to heart. We worked through the physics.
She moved up. She kept going.

A few weeks ago, she wrote this on LinkedIn:

"MRS OKAFOR. You were very instrumental on this very
journey! So grateful to have had you as a physics
teacher and mentor. Your words of encouragement every
time I faced a challenge would ring in my head till
today."

This is what IGCSE prep is really about at Oak. The

There's something most IGCSE tutors don't have. It's the
single biggest reason my students do well.

I'm an active international examiner. I mark physics
papers for three boards: Cambridge CAIE, OCR, and
Pearson Edexcel.

Most tutors aren't examiners for any board. I mark for
three.

What does that actually mean for your child?

It means I see — every single exam cycle — what
examiners are looking for. The patterns. The keywords.
The phrasing that wins marks versus the phrasing that
loses them. The detailed marking schemes that actually
decide whether your child's answer scores aren't
published publicly. But I work with them, every cycle.

The most common reason capable students underperform in
IGCSE physics? They don't read questions carefully.
They see a keyword, assume they know the question, and
start writing. By the time they realise they've
answered the wrong thing, the marks are gone.

I see it in marking. I fix it in tutoring.

The examiner perspective goes into every session at Oak.

I'm Mrs. Okafor — IGCSE physics specialist, school
coordinator, and an international examiner for
Cambridge, OCR, and Edexcel for the past five years.

Over 25+ years, I've taught British curriculum science
across Avi-Cenna International School, British
International School Lagos, and Love World
International College — eventually heading physics
and science departments, training other teachers,
and helping schools dramatically improve their results.
