In Nigeria, the fellowship will support at least 100 students per year.
Fellowship Coverage

Fellowships are for the full duration of the Bachelor of Tech, Science and Engineering programs for 4- 5 years
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for this Fellowship are as follows:

The Fellowship will only apply to students admitted into any one of the 7 participating public universities.
The Foundation will consider gender diversity as part of the selection criteria.
The candidate shall not be a recipient of any other fellowship/scholarship/grants for the same purposes as being supported by Airtel Africa Foundation.
Only new entrants shall be eligible. (100 level)
The Candidate must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the program
Scored a minimum of 230 in JAMB
Possess 5 credits, including English and mathematics, in one sitting.
Applicants must have JAMB results and an admission letter, a School ID card & WAEC certificate/ result to be shortlisted

OPIT opens door to Computer Science, AI

Hiring demand for tech workers is estimated to accelerate in the next five years, with the U.S. alone adding more than a million new tech jobs by the end of the decade. To meet the challenges and rising demand for tech experts, Open Institute of Technology (OPIT), a new online higher education institution, has introduced two degrees.

They are a BSc in Modern Computer Science and an MSc in Applied Data Science in AI.

Rector, OPIT and former Minister of Education, University and Research of Italy, Professor Francesco Profumo, said: “In an era marked by an inevitable acceleration towards the most urgent transitions that society requires of us, including the digital one, OPIT’s mission is to focus on quality online education in the Computer Science field. The starting point is the awareness of the misalignment in the labour market, between what is taught and what companies are looking for today. That so-called mismatch generated by too much theory and too little practical approach.

OPIT stands out in higher education for a modern approach to teaching which is modeled on the need for quality, flexibility, and inclusiveness of the new generations. It is oriented towards the acquisition of up-to-date skills in the crucial sector of Computer Science. Through live lessons, masterclasses, videos, quizzes, exercises, and internally developed digital content, students can access training courses at any time, wherever they are, but without sacrificing quality and community, thanks to specific features integrated into the app. OPIT is a fully accredited institute within the European Qualification Framework (EQF) and the MQF. Two students of Chrisland Schools, Oluwabukolami Adeyemi and Mmesomachukwu Okonkwo recently emerged ‘Tops in the World’ in the Cambridge International AS Level and International General Certificate of Secondary Education(IGSCE) examinations respectively.

Having gained the highest mark in English as second Language (Speaking Endorsement) in IGSCE, Okonkwo got the Top in the World award, while Adeyemi who gained the highest mark in the world in the Cambridge International AS Level Law, got Top in the World award as well as the High Achievement Award for Cambridge AS Level Psychology.
