NSUK Department of Geology and Mining Hosts Seminar on Green Development

KEFFI, Nigeria – June 11, 2023

The Department of Geology and Mining at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), under the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, hosted a seminar titled "Making Nigeria Green: Geo-Sciences and Nasarawa State in Focus" on June 11, 2023. The event, held at the University Assembly Hall, gathered a broad audience comprising the Vice Chancellor, senior university officials, deans, heads of departments, academic staff, and students.

In her opening remarks, Vice Chancellor Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman emphasized the critical role of geosciences in addressing environmental challenges and advancing sustainable development. She called for innovation, research collaboration, and community-driven initiatives to help Nigeria transition toward a greener future. Professor Liman also cited the Amina Mohammed Centre for Climate Change at NSUK as a key research institution working to tackle environmental and climate-related issues in Nigeria and across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Professor M.D. Makut, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting research that drives environmental conservation and sustainable growth. He expressed appreciation to all participants and contributors for their role in the seminar’s success.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor N.G. Goki highlighted the economic and developmental opportunities that a green Nigeria could offer. He stressed the importance of geoscientific research and innovation in unlocking renewable energy potential and harnessing the state’s rich geological resources for national progress.

A vibrant Q&A session followed, during which Professor Liman encouraged students to actively apply their academic knowledge in solving real-world problems. She also urged faculty to undertake research projects with practical outcomes, stressing their importance in global innovation and development efforts.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Professor M.O. Nweze, Chairman of the Planning Committee, who commended the dedication of the organizing team and the enthusiastic participation of attendees.

Students admitted into Nasarawa State University, Keffi, during the 2017 to 2020 Academic Session but were not captured on JAMB CAPS or did Change of Course from programs that were originally offered them by JAMB are requested to respond to the memo below 👇👇👇👇 or risk regularisation for NYSC.

NASG Presents Official Vehicle To Chairman Of Governing Council.

In line with best global practices and to further improve the functionality of the office of the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, the Visitor to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and Executive Governor of Nasarawa State His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has presented an official vehicle (SUV) to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega.

Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the Council Chairman, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman appreciated the Nasarawa State Government for the gesture, noting that the vehicle will go a long way in ensuring the smooth and seamless operations of the office of the Chairman of the Governing of the University.

The highlight of the brief event was the presentation of the keys and documents of the SUV to the Vice-Chancellor by the Registrar of the University, Dr. Bala Isyaka Ahmed II, and the transfer of the documents to the Director of Works ESV Ibrahim Mairiga for subsequent transmission to the Chairman of the Governing Council.
