SUBEB Chairman Urges Communities to Safeguard Education Projects in Kano State

The Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Malam Yusuf Kabir, has called on the public to take greater responsibility in protecting ongoing and completed education projects from damage or theft.

During an inspection tour across Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Bebeji, and Kura LGAs, Malam Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the timely and high-quality completion of new classrooms, especially at Illumul Qur’an Islamiyya Primary School, Dadin Kowa (Doguwa LGA).

He also visited Dadin Kowa Arewa Primary School, where he inspected dilapidated classrooms and promised urgent repairs—reaffirming Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to reviving the education sector and providing a safe, conducive learning environment across Kano State.

Contractors handling projects at Hamza Hussain Primary School and Tagwaye Primary School in Doguwa LGA were urged to return to their sites immediately to complete their work.

The Chairman further commended the timely delivery of projects in Tudun Wada and Bebeji, and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work at Gwaji (Model) Primary School, Kura LGA.

UBEC Deputy Executive Secretary Visits Kano, Pledges Stronger Collaboration to Boost Basic Education

In a bid to strengthen collaboration and enhance the quality of basic education in Kano State, the Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Mr. Razak Olajowun Akinyemi, has paid an official visit to the leadership of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The visit, hosted by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir, focused on monitoring ongoing projects and identifying strategic areas for improved synergy between UBEC and SUBEB.

Mr. Akinyemi explained that his mission was to inspect projects jointly executed by UBEC and SUBEB and to explore avenues for deeper collaboration in the implementation of basic education interventions. He lauded SUBEB for its notable strides in advancing Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE), as well as improvements in primary and junior secondary education. These achievements include the construction of classrooms, teacher training on modern methodologies, and provision of instructional materials.

While commending the Kano State Government’s investments in educational infrastructure and teacher development, Mr. Akinyemi also appealed to alumni of public schools to contribute to the development of the institutions that once nurtured them. According to him, such community support would complement government efforts in revitalizing the education sector.

In his response, Malam Yusuf Kabir thanked UBEC for its continuous support and highlighted the state government's recent achievements, including the recruitment of teachers, infrastructure development, and supply of teaching and learning materials. He urged UBEC to consider Kano’s unique position, as a state with over 8,000 basic education schools, when allocating intervention funds and projects.

He further revealed that Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a land allocation within the SUBEB headquarters at Audu Bako Secretariat for the construction of a permanent UBEC state office. He also appealed for the upgrade of the Kano UBEC office to a zonal coordinating office, given the scale of educational activities in the state.

As part of his visit, Mr. Akinyemi also toured the UBEC Smart School located in Tarda, Ungogo Local Government Area, reaffirming UBEC’s commitment to quality and innovation in Nigeria’s basic education system.

Kano SUBEB Trains 400 Quality Assurance Officers to Boost Education Standards

In a decisive step to enhance the quality of basic education, the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commenced a three-day intensive training for 400 Quality Assurance Officers (QAOs) across the state. The training, which focused on e-Quality Assurance and the tracking of Teacher Policy Indicators, is fully sponsored by the Kano State Government and is being held at SUBEB’s Special Training Program Centre, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso.

Participants were drawn from the state and zonal levels, as well as all 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), demonstrating the government’s commitment to inclusive and widespread educational reform. The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir, was represented at the event by the Director of Quality Assurance, Muazu Magaji Said, who monitored the sessions and addressed the participants.

Muazu emphasized that the training aims to modernize the state’s school evaluation system by equipping QAOs with modern tools and digital methodologies for effective school supervision and timely reporting. He explained that the program will significantly improve the capacity of QAOs to monitor, evaluate, and contribute meaningfully to school improvement efforts across the state.

“This training is part of our long-term commitment to strengthen school supervision and ensure effective implementation of teacher policy indicators,” Muazu stated. “We are building a digital-savvy Quality Assurance team capable of driving sustainable improvements in our basic education system.”

He added that the initiative aligns with the Kano State Government’s broader education reform vision, which is centered on innovation, accountability, and human capital development. According to him, this training marks another major milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to raise education standards and ensure every learner benefits from a high-quality, well-monitored school environment.

Kano SUBEB Commences School-Based Training for Model Teachers

In a renewed effort to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in basic education, the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has launched a school-based training programme for model school teachers across the state. The training, which is taking place at the Special Training Program Center in Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, was officially declared open by the Director of Teacher Development, Hajiya Hauwa Tanimu, who represented the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir.

Hajiya Hauwa explained that the training is part of the Board’s continuous professional development efforts aimed at strengthening teachers' capacity in effective lesson planning, classroom management, literacy, and numeracy. She noted that the five-day training targets model teachers selected from 100 schools across 25 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), and is fully funded by the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to her, the training will equip participants with practical teaching strategies and skills that will enhance classroom performance and improve learning outcomes. She urged the teachers to step down the knowledge gained to their colleagues to ensure broader impact across schools in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hajiya Hauwa expressed sincere appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to education reform and his continued support in implementing impactful policies that are transforming the basic education sector in Kano State.

GOOD NEWS FOR BESDA TEACHER RECRUITMENT CANDIDATES!

The Executive Chairman of Kano State SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir, has announced that ALL candidates who sat for the BESDA Recruitment Exam will be employed—based on their results! ✅

According to him, 88% of candidates scored satisfactorily and will be fully employed as classroom teachers. The remaining 12% who didn’t meet the cut-off will also be considered for support roles within their local education authorities—following the kind directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“This decision reflects the Governor’s compassion and commitment to strengthening grassroots education in Kano State,” Malam Yusuf said during a strategic meeting with Education Secretaries and Zonal Directors at the SUBEB Headquarters.

Candidates who are yet to receive their results—don’t panic! EMIS Officers in all 44 LGAs have been instructed to urgently follow up and resolve the matter.

After these processes, successful candidates will undergo document verification, and appointment letters will be officially presented by His Excellency, the Governor himself!

🚫 Beware of fraudsters! Malam Yusuf warned the public about fake appointment letters and confirmed that anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.

UBEC Commends Kano State Government's Efforts in Improving Education

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Hajiya Aisha Garba, has expressed her satisfaction with the commitment and efforts of the Kano State Government in advancing the education sector.

Hajiya Aisha made this known during an official working visit to the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) at the Audu Bako Secretariat. She reaffirmed UBEC's dedication to strengthening collaboration with the Kano State Government to ensure access to quality and inclusive education for all children.

She also called on parents to take responsibility by enrolling and supporting their children’s education, stressing that education is a collective responsibility—not just for government, but for every member of society.

Furthermore, she urged community leaders to intensify public sensitization on the importance of education and the need to send children to school, as a pathway to building a better society.

🗣 Remarks by SUBEB Chairman, Malam Yusuf Kabir:
In his remarks, Malam Yusuf Kabir, Executive Chairman of Kano SUBEB, highlighted the past decline in education standards and the significant improvements achieved under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He noted that the current administration allocated an impressive 31% of the 2025 state budget to education, demonstrating its strong commitment to the sector. He also emphasized the Governor’s bold move to absorb over 5,000 BESDA facilitators (cohorts I, II, III) as permanent and pensionable staff.

Additionally, he announced the upcoming screening of nearly 4,000 BESDA facilitators (cohort IV) for permanent employment, scheduled to begin on Saturday, 21st June to 27th June 2025.

Malam Yusuf further commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for initiating the construction and renovation of classrooms, provision of teaching and learning materials, and implementation of welfare support for both teaching and non-teaching staff.

He concluded by appealing to the UBEC leadership to consider Kano’s large population in the disbursement of intervention funds, as the state consistently leads in counterpart funding commitment.
