Ibrahim Yusuf Bako, an SS2 student of Governors College, Kano, and an indigene of Dandago Quarters in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, aged 15 years, won the 5th position in the Obafemi Awolowo University National Annual Science Quiz Competition 2026 held at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
There were participants across all secondary schools in Nigeria in the first round, which started online in May 2026. He was lucky to make it to the top 10 in the 2nd round online, went for the finals, and won the 5th position on 10th June, 2026. The awards were presented by Professor Ogundare Babatunde.
A very interesting thing is that Ibrahim Yusuf Bako is the only student from a public school among the top 10 participants.

This indeed is a remarkable achievement, not only to Ibrahim's immediate family but to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, the Executive Secretary of the Science and Technical Schools Board, Kano, the entire family of the Science and Technical Schools Board, Kano, Governors College, Kano, and indeed the people of Kano State, due to the fact that he is the only participant from among the whole Northern states.
This indeed is a blessing from ALLAH the Almighty.
ALHAMDULILLAH
