Public Concern Over the Whereabouts and Alleged Death of Shaikh Sani Khalifa
The attention of the public has been drawn to growing concerns surrounding the status and whereabouts of Shaikh Sani Khalifa, who was reportedly arrested on allegations of criminal conduct and subsequently arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction. It is noteworthy that the legal proceedings in respect of the said matter were ongoing and had not reached final determination at the material time.
Recent reports and allegations suggesting that Shaikh Sani Khalifa may have died while in custody have generated widespread public anxiety and demand for clarity.
In view of the foregoing, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Office of the Inspector General of Police are hereby respectfully urged, in the interest of transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law, to urgently provide clear and authoritative information on the following:
1• The current status of Shaikh Sani Khalifa — whether he is alive or deceased;
2• If deceased, the cause and circumstances surrounding his death;
3• The conditions under which he was held while in custody;
4• Whether all due legal and constitutional procedures were duly observed;
Any steps being taken to investigate the matter and ensure accountability, where necessary.
The right to life and the right to fair hearing remain fundamental constitutional guarantees, and any perceived violation of these rights must be addressed with utmost seriousness.
The Nigerian public, as critical stakeholders in the justice system, deserve timely, transparent, and factual communication on this matter to prevent misinformation and maintain public trust in state institutions.
