BREAKING: FG Approves Pensions For Retired Defunct Nigeria Airways Workers After 22 Years
JULY 23 2025
The Federal Government has approved the pensions for retired aviation workers after almost 22 years of waiting.
In a statement shared by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) via its official X account on Tuesday, the Agency said that the Ministry of Aviation has confirmed that disbursements will begin soon, with a pledge to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process.
“The Federal Government has approved the long-awaited pensions for retired aviation workers, bringing long-overdue relief to thousands who served in the sector. This decision follows years of advocacy by unions pushing for justice for retirees, especially from defunct national carriers.
“The Ministry of Aviation confirmed that the payments will be processed soon, with a commitment to transparency,” the statement read in part.
The payment approval also factored in former staff of the airline.
Nigeria Airways operated from 1958 until it ceased operations in 2003 due to mismanagement, corruption, and mounting debts. It was fully owned by the Federal Government.
Upon its closure, over 6,000 former workers were left without their full pensions and gratuities, prompting nearly two decades of demands for justice.
The decision follows years of sustained advocacy by unions demanding justice for retired workers, particularly those from defunct national carriers.
The statement added that stakeholders have welcomed the development. Many see it as a long-overdue step toward restoring dignity and trust in the aviation industry.
In 2018, aviation unions, including the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) threatened to shut down Nigerian airspace over the government’s failure to release N45 billion in entitlements owed to the retir

JUST IN: FG suspends controversial circular on doctors’ allowances
July 21, 2025
The Federal Government has suspended a recent circular issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission that reviewed the allowances of medical and dental officers in federal service.
Dated June 27, 2025, and referenced SWC/S/04/S.218/III/646, the circular sparked backlash from major medical bodies including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), and the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
The NMA had issued a 21-day ultimatum on July 2, demanding the withdrawal of the circular and urging the government to meet its outstanding demands or face a nationwide strike by July 23. NMA President, Prof. Audu Bala, criticized the document, stating it contained provisions not jointly agreed upon and detrimental to the welfare of healthcare workers.
Confirming the latest development, NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, told our correspondent on Monday that the circular has now been suspended to allow for further consultations.
“Following a meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who also serves as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Salaries, it was agreed that the implementation of the circular should be halted to enable broader engagement with professional bodies,” Osundara said.
Further details are expected.

BREAKING: PWAN not licensed to operate in Nigeria, SEC warns investors
7th May 2025
The Securities and Exchange Commission has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the operations of Property World Africa Network, also known as PWAN MAX, which has been soliciting funds from unsuspecting investors under the guise of a real estate investment company.
The SEC has clarified that PWAN/PWAN MAX is not registered with the Commission to operate in any capacity within Nigeria’s capital market, raising serious concerns about the legitimacy of its activities.
In a public notice released on Tuesday via its official Twitter handle, the SEC revealed that investigations into PWAN’s operations uncovered characteristics typical of a fraudulent Ponzi scheme.
The Commission highlighted red flags such as promises of unusually high returns and the company’s failure to honour withdrawal requests from subscribers.
“The Commission hereby informs the public that PWAN/PWAN MAX are NOT REGISTERED by the Commission either to solicit investments from the public or operate in any other capacity within the Nigerian capital market,” the statement read.
The SEC’s warning comes amid growing concerns about unregulated entities exploiting investors in Nigeria’s financial markets. The Commission emphasised the risks associated with investing in unregistered platforms, stating, “The public is strongly advised to be wary about investing with PWAN/PWAN MAX, as any person who places such investment with these entities does so at his/her own risk.”
This caution underscores the need for due diligence among investors to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
Further, the SEC urged potential investors to verify the registration status of any investment platform before committing funds.
The Commission directed the public to its dedicated portal at www.sec.gov.ng/cmos for this purpose. “The Commission similarly reminds potential investors of the need to VERIFY the registration status of i

BREAKING: NIMC unveils new NIN verification service
6th May 2025
The Federal Government has approved a new service by the National Identity Management Commission to make it easier and safer to verify people’s identities using their National Identification Number.
This was disclosed in a statement by NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, on Tuesday in Lagos.
Adegoke said the Presidency has also instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to use this new NIN Authentication service for identity checks.
He explained that this move supports NIMC’s duty to provide a reliable digital ID system for Nigerians and legal residents.
The new service, called NIN Authentication, can be used through the web, mobile apps, or API. It helps protect people’s data, ensures privacy, and makes it easier to use government services.
“This supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve how identities are managed in the country,” he said.
The NINAuth application is the official tool for connecting with NIMC’s database.
It adds a strong layer of protection and gives people more control over their personal information.
It also requires users to give permission before their data is used for services like Know Your Customer or other checks.
Adegoke said the platform encourages trust and allows people to manage how their information is shared.
With NINAuth, people can safely verify their identity and access services like SIM registration, SIM replacement, passport applications, tax filings, and financial transactions.
It will also be used for government support programmes, driver’s licence renewals, and other official processes.
He added that the service comes with several benefits: better security, protection against unauthorised access to personal data, and giving people the power to control their data-sharing settings.
The NINAuth also offers easy and secure access to many services through a single sign-on feature.
