Many singers approach high notes by adding force; Pushing more air, tightening the throat, or lifting the chin; believing height comes from strength. In reality, this is like trying to shout your way up a staircase; the more you push, the more your body resists.

When BALANCE is present, the breath supports the sound steadily, the vocal folds adjust efficiently, and resonance shifts naturally without tension. The singer doesn’t feel like they are “reaching” for the note; instead, the note feels as though it settles into place. This is why trained singers often describe high notes as lighter, freer, and easier than mid-range notes. The pitch is higher, but the effort is lower because the system is working together.
