What do you know about the history of crude oil?
In 600 B.C, the first oil was discovered by the Chinese and transported through bamboo pipelines. Notably, Colonel Drake led the discovery of oil in Titusville, Pennsylvania, in 1859. The Spindletop well in Texas set the stage for a new oil economy in 1901. Petroleum became more flexible and adaptable than coal.

What do you know about the invention of television?
The invention of the first electronic television is credited to John Logie Baird and Charles Francis Jenkins, who both worked independently of each other.
John Logie Baird:
- Demonstrated the first public television transmission on January 26, 1926, in London, UK
- Used a mechanical scanning system to transmit live, monochrome (black and white) images
Charles Francis Jenkins:
- Developed an all-electronic television system in 1927
- Demonstrated the first public television transmission in the United States on June 13, 1928
- Used a cathode ray tube (CRT) for both camera and display
However, the modern electronic television, using an all-electronic system with a camera tube called the iconoscope, was invented by:
Vladimir Zworykin:
- Developed the iconoscope in 1923
- Demonstrated an all-electronic television system in 1929
- His design became the basis for modern television technology
These pioneers played significant roles in developing the technology that led to modern television.

Do you know who invented the first handheld mobile phone?
Martin Cooper, an engineer at Motorola, is credited with inventing the first cell phone in 1973. Cooper led a team that developed the Radio Telephone System, which included the DynaTAC 8000X mobile phone. On April 3, 1973, Cooper made the first cell phone call from a street corner in New York to a Bell Laboratories counterpart, telling him he was calling from a portable cell phone. The DynaTAC 8000X weighed 1.1 kg, measured 33 x 4.5 x 8.9 cm, and had a 6 in antenna on top. It offered 30 minutes of talk time and needed 10 hours to charge, and had about 12 hours of stand-by time. The DynaTAC was nicknamed "The Brick" and was released commercially in 1984.
Cooper was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 26, 1928. He attended a technical high school and graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) before serving as a submarine officer in the Korean War. He then worked for the Teletype Corporation before joining Motorola in 1954, where he led a team of engineers working on portable mobile communications by 1973.
