🐔💥 10 POWERFUL NATURAL SECRETS TO MAKE YOUR CHICKENS LAY EVERY DAY 💥🐔

If your hens are skipping days, you’re leaving money on the table! The top farmers don’t just feed chickens—they optimize everything. Here are natural secrets that can turn your flock into egg machines 👇

1️⃣ Fresh Clean Water DAILY

Even 1 day without water = zero eggs

Hydration directly controls egg production

2️⃣ Early Morning Feeding

Feeding early triggers laying hormones

Hens lay better when they eat on time

3️⃣ Sunlight Exposure ☀️

Natural light boosts laying cycle

At least 12–14 hours of light needed

4️⃣ Calcium Boost (Shells, Limestone)

Prevents soft eggs

Increases laying consistency

5️⃣ Protein-Rich Diet

Eggs are made of protein!

Low protein = fewer eggs

6️⃣ Reduce Stress

Noise, overcrowding = drop in eggs

Calm chickens lay more

7️⃣ Clean Nesting Boxes

Dirty nests discourage laying

Keep it dry, soft, and private

8️⃣ Natural Deworming (Bitter Leaf, Garlic)

Worms steal nutrients

Healthy hens = more eggs

9️⃣ Proper Spacing

Overcrowding reduces production

Give them room to move freely

🔟 Consistent Feeding Routine

Chickens love routine

Irregular feeding = irregular laying

💡 Expert Tip: Even small mistakes can reduce egg production by 30–50%. Fix these and watch your egg basket overflow! 🧺🔥

ANATOMY OF A CHICKEN

Understanding the internal structure of a chicken helps farmers, vets, and poultry enthusiasts care for their birds more effectively. Here's a simple breakdown of the key parts:

head and neck
Includes the brain, eyes, beak, and esophagus. The esophagus carries food from the mouth to the crop.

crop
A pouch in the neck area where food is stored and softened before digestion.

proventriculus
The glandular stomach where digestive enzymes begin breaking down food.

gizzard
A muscular organ that grinds food, often with the help of small stones the chicken swallows.

intestines
Where nutrients are absorbed. The small intestine handles digestion, while the large intestine absorbs water.

liver
Processes nutrients and filters toxins. It also produces bile for fat digestion.

heart and lungs
The heart pumps blood, and the lungs handle oxygen exchange. Chickens have air sacs to help with breathing.

reproductive organs
In hens, the o***y and oviduct produce and transport eggs. In roosters, the te**es produce s***m.

cloaca
A common exit for the digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.

skeletal and muscular system
Supports movement and protects internal organs. Chickens have hollow bones to reduce weight for flight, even though most domestic breeds don’t fly far.

PROTECT YOUR CHICKENS FROM SNAKES CANNIBALISM !! ( BIOSECURITY)

Snakes are usually unexpected but shouldn't be a surprise when found around poultry.
It's important to keep snakes out of your chicken environment to keep the eggs, chicks, & even your chickens safe from snake attacks.

If you have snakes around your poultry, it's one sign that you have rodents in the poultry and most likely eating your chicken's feed.

Here are some of the ways you can implement to avoid these creatures in your homesteads:

1. RODENT CONTROL:
Rats love chicken feed and snakes love rats and mice. If you have too many rats running around your yard, chances of sighting a snake are high. Rodent control is therefore important. Ensure proper waste management – burn or properly dispose of any litter far away from the fowl run.

Too much garbage lying around is food for rats and junk items around the yard such as rubbles, old roofing sheets and wood piles provide a safe haven for rats and snakes. As you may be aware, rats breed so fast hence attracting the attention of these reptiles which may end up in your fowl run eating the chickens and eggs.

2. SNAKE REPELLANTS:
Planting snake repellant plants also helps to deter the creatures. These plants emit odours that irritate snakes. Some common examples include marigolds, lemongrass, wormwood, rosemary, thyme, garlic, garden rue and onions. Plant these around the chicken run and yard to provide a protective shield for the birds.

Snake pills from most veterinary shops also help excrete pungent smell that deter these reptiles. Smoke from burning tyres also irritates snakes from settling in the yard. Putting diesel around the perimeter of the yard or fowl run also ensures snakes do not cross the line. You can also put broken bottle pieces around the fowl run to deter snakes from crossing. Spraying a concoction of mahogany tree barks soaked in water around the yard also repels the serpents.

3. CUT DOWN TALL GRASS:
Ensure grass around the yard and fowl run is cut short at all times. Tall grass and thick bushes provide a safe home or hideout for snakes and even mosquitos.

4. COVER ANY FOWL RUN OPENINGS:
With the rains around, snakes are constantly looking for dry and warm places to stay. Fowl runs, homes and storerooms provide these ideal conditions. Ensure the fowl run has no openings that allow snakes to enter especially from the roof.

Cover any openings with mesh wire or plaster any holes or cracks where possible. The fowl run should be snake proof to protect the chickens at all times.

5. PRUNE TREES:
Snakes can climb trees and find ways to enter the fowl run through the roof. Ensure any nearby trees are pruned at all times.

6. COLLECT EGGS REGULARLY:
Snakes are mostly attracted to eggs more than the chickens. It’s only when chickens seem to be a predator when snakes do attack the birds.

Ensure eggs in nesting boxes are removed regularly during the day and remove the ‘temptation’ for snakes to enter the fowl runs.

7. KEEPING GUINEA FOWLS:
Those with guinea fowls (hanga) can testify these birds are very alert and make a lot of noise when they see intruders. Guinea fowls are not afraid of snakes and can fight off and kill these reptiles with ease.

However, guinea fowls can also end up bullying chickens hence you need to introduce them pretty early to ensure they can co-exist well.

8. CATS AND DOGS:
Cats are good at reducing rodent population and even fighting off snakes. Dogs too can help in spotting such intruders. Having these in the yard is a sure help when it comes to managing rodents and keeping snakes away.

CONCLUSION:
In the event you find snakes in the fowl run, it is always advisable to enlist the services of professional snake handlers than trying to manage this on your own.

Some snake species are poisonous and can harm you. Snake handlers know how to catch and rehabilitate these reptiles. Snakes have a purpose in the ecosystem, there is need to preserve them hence the need to call professionals for help.

USES OF MORINGA PLANT AND HOW TO USE IT IN POULTRY FARMING:

✔️Moringa plant, also known as the drumstick tree, is a highly nutritious plant that can be used in various ways in poultry farming. Here are some of its uses and how to use it:

✔️Feed supplement: Moringa leaves are rich in essential nutrients, including protein, vitamins, and minerals, that are beneficial to poultry health and productivity. You can dry the leaves and grind them into a powder, which can then be added to your poultry feed to supplement their nutrition.

✔️Immune booster: Moringa leaves contain natural antioxidants, which help boost the immune system of poultry birds, making them more resistant to diseases and infections.

✔️Antibacterial agent: Moringa leaves contain antibacterial compounds that can help prevent and control bacterial infections in poultry. Adding moringa powder to the feed can help reduce the incidence of diseases such as coccidiosis and salmonellosis.

✔️Growth promoter: Moringa leaves also contain growth-promoting compounds, which can help improve the growth rate and weight gain of poultry birds, making them more marketable.
To use moringa in poultry farming, you can follow these steps:

✔️Harvest fresh moringa leaves and wash them thoroughly.

✔️Dry the leaves in the shade until they are dry and crisp.

✔️Grind the dried leaves into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or a grinder.

✔️Mix the moringa powder into your poultry feed, at a ratio of 2-5% of the total feed, depending on the age and weight of the birds.

✔️Store the moringa powder in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.

Interesting facts of chicken egg fertility that you may not know.

🪶 It is possible to have a rooster and a hen that are active but a hen can still lay eggs that are not fertile:

I know you may be wondering how, and here is the explanation.
Unlike other birds where you find partners, in chickens there is no courtship or romance. A rooster just forces himself on the hen. So what happens is when a rooster mates a hen, his injected semen is stored in numerous s***m storage tubules (SSTs) located in the area where the hen’s uterus joins the va**na. But this only happens provided the hen likes the rooster. If she doesn’t, she can sq**rt out the semen to avoid hatching his offspring. Therefore a hen may still proceed to lay eggs that are not fertile despite even mating with a rooster every day.

🪶 Even if the hen approves the rooster, some eggs may still not be fertile:

Since the s***m is released shortly after an egg is laid, and each egg takes approximately 25 hours to develop, an egg produced on the day of mating will not be fertile.

An egg laid the next day may or may not be fertile, depending on the timing. An egg laid on the third day definitely should be fertile.

So as you can see your hen can still have the first two or three eggs that are not fertile despite the hen and a rooster having mated.

🪶 You don't need a rooster everyday for the hen to continue laying fertile eggs:

The amount of time during which the hen will continue to lay fertile eggs depends on how much s***m fills the SSTs, which are capable of storing semen from multiple matings and multiple roosters.

Highly productive hens generally remain fertile longer than hens that lay at a slower rate. The average duration of fertility from a single mating is 10 to 14 days.
So it is possible that once your hen has mated with a rooster you can even take the rooster away and you can still have fertile eggs for the next 14 days.

🪶 For first time layers if a rooster has mated with a hen, all her eggs are not always fertile:

Generally speaking, a hen who has mated will be fertile between 7 and 10 days after. It takes that long for the s***m to reach the oviduct where eggs are made. So it is possible that after mating, your hen can still continue to lay eggs that are not fertile for the next 10 days. This is why it is encouraged that for hens that are laying for the first time it is better to eat the eggs for the first two or three weeks instead of attempting to hatch them.

🪶 Not all roosters have fertile s***m:

This is a sad one. Just like in humans, even in chickens we also have roosters that are infertile.
Why? Who knows. It's maybe just something in his genes not working as it should. Again, very like the human condition. There's not always a rhyme or reason.

NB- This article has been compiled to help people understand why at time they may hear those who provide hatchery services referring to their eggs not having been fertile. We know some have been wondering why the eggs are said not to be fertile yet they have the recommended number of hens and roosters that are also active for that matter.

While the article has been compiled from various sources that we believe to be credible, it is only for general information. For specifics relating to one's flock we still recommend that farmers use the services of professionals.

Thank you for reading.

THE BEST BROILER BREED YOU NEED TO KNOW.

If you’re a poultry farmer, understanding the breed of birds is the best way to avoid most of the problems with stunted growth, Newcastle infection, height and weight challenges and general carcass quality.

I have heard from farmers countless times that their broilers don’t do very well as the other stocks they raised. It is possible too that they are from the same hatchery but what happens why they don’t grow at the same rate?

Firstly, note that unless you are getting your chicks directly from the trusted supplier or hatchery, they can be compromised.

Secondly, general management practice is another determinant of your broilers performance.

Now Let’s Get the Real Gist.

I have heard people say too that all broilers are the same it doesn’t matter which one you go for. That is a pure lie. All broilers are not the same unless you don’t care to know the different species of broilers and their growth and weight performance. They may look alike but the differences are always very clear in their growth performance and overall health.

We’ll be discussing the 3 major types of broilers species.

Please note that there are numerous species of broilers including Ross 308, Marshall Broilers, Cob 500, Arbor Acre plus, Hubbard and Anak, but we’ll be discussing the 3 major ones in this post.

1. Abhor Acre plus breed of Broiler
2. Ross 308 breed of Broiler
3. Cobb 500 breed of Broiler

Although the result for all broilers remains meat, they perform differently and meet their target meat value at different stages. Understanding this simple truth will help you always have the best experience as a broiler farmer.

Before going for the type of broiler breed, you should have an aim. I mean who are you producing your broilers for? If a suya man is your main target, you should consider raising a broiler that doesn’t have much fat and reach the market size within 4 – 5 weeks. Why? Because the suya men don’t buy too big chickens that has too much fat since it’ll be more difficult for them to roast. Also, to them, the price remains the same however big it is.

Now let’s look at these;

1. ROSS 308
Ross 308: these are the major products of Agrited and Sayed hatcheries. Sayed hatchery produce other breed of Broiler too like Abor acre plus in which they get the parent stock from CHI hatchery. CHI is the only hatchery that have the Exclusive license in Nigeria to import Abor Acre plus parents stock from abroad into the country. So in case you are wondering why the differences in the performance of the broiler you bought from Sayed hatchery, it's because they produce different breed of Broiler but they won't tell you. I'm only saying this because I want to be honest with you farmers but if you think that I'm lying, you can ask those workers that have been working for long at CHI hatchery, they will tell you. Not only Sayed gets their parents stock from CHI hatchery, other hatcheries does, but I won't mention names.
ROSS 308 Broilers are known for their fast growth rate, good breastmeat, excellent feed conversion and considerable lean meat (low fat meat)

2. ABOR ACRE PLUS
Abor Acre plus these are the major products of CHI. They are known for their heavy feeding, good weight and carcass and (good feed conversion)

3. COBB 500
Cobb are some of the products from Zartech, NPG, Olam/Chikun, Goldsmine. Note: we use the word some here because all their products are not always Cobb 500.
The REAL Cobb 500 breed of broilers are known for their lean meat, good height, and good breast mean and good feed conversion.

Now, looking at the above analysis it is obvious that all broiler species are not the same especially in growth performance, height and weight including their lean meat and breast conformation.

So?
If you’re a seller looking to market your chickens live, it is best to go for Cobb 500 from Zartech hatchery and ROSS 308 from Agrited hatchery because of their height and growth performance.

If you’re a farmer who does frozen chicken sales, Abhor Acre plus breed from CHI hatchery are best because of their heavy weight and overall carcass quality. These species may not grow as tall as the Cobb and Ross breed but their weight may take a match.

Note: this is just my opinion from research and base on my practical experience with these broiler species . Some farmers have raised Cobbs that gave general live weight far better than Abhor Acre – this boils down to the management practices.

The Ross 308 breed will produce a perfect result for frozen chicken sales too.

The truth is, what works for someone else may not work for you too so, always do your investigations before going for your broilers understanding that there is a slight difference between the species which may determine your overall experience at the end of the day.

Happy farming.

SOME BENEFITS OF CHARCOAL WHEN APPLIED IN POULTRY FARMS.

PLEASE, like and share, you might be organically helping a farmer out there. 🙏🙏

🐔. In the dust bath - charcoal or wood ash added to your chickens' dust bath helps to suffocate parasites such as mites, lice, fleas and ticks.

🐓. As a feed supplement - it has been observed that animals in the wild will gnaw on charred branches and stumps after a forest fire.

-Charcoal works as a laxative and detoxifier, flushing toxins out of the body.

- It will also help expel internal worms to some extent.

-Calcium is the most abundant element in wood ash, but it's also a good source of potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium.

-Adding wood ash to your chicken feed in a 1% ratio can improve lay rates, extend laying periods and will also reduce the smell of the chicken droppings.

- Ashes obtained from hardwoods like cedar, oak and maple have five times as many nutrients as softwoods like pine and balsa.

🐔. As a wound healing agent - wood ash possesses antibacterial qualities which can prevent an open wound from becoming infected and also works to stop bleeding quickly, much like cornstarch, when applied topically to a wound.

-When ingested, the Vitamin K in the wood ash works to help blood clot and can reverse the effects of the coumadin in rat poison, for instance.

🐓. To keep the pen clean - sprinkling wood ash on your pen floor can help reduce odor.

- it's effective in absorbing the ammonia (choking gas that comes out from litters).

- Like baking soda, wood ash is alkaline and therefore will absorb and help neutralize bad smells. It will also help reduce the humidity level (The level of moisture ) in your pen.

🐔. To control impurities in the water - adding a chunk of charcoal to your water can help keep algae and other bacteria from forming and help absorb and filter out other impurities, while adding minerals to the water.

🐓. It also serve as material for igniting heat used for brooding.

I WISH US ALL SUCCESS. WE WILL SUCCEED.
WE WILL MAKE PROFITS
WE WILL ALWAYS WIN.
GOD BLESS US ALL AND OUR BUSINESSES.
