A.P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI) is the only research institute for the study of birds in west Africa and one of three in the whole continent. It was fascinating visiting the center and the Amurum forest reserve that houses over 300 bird species right here in Jos Nature is a critical part of the uniqueness of Jos and you’ll be absolutely blown away by the wonderful birds of the Jos-Plateau. APLORI is hosting its Ninth Leventis Lecture in celebration of the living legend, Dr. Anastasios P. Leventis, whose immense impact in the fields of conservation and climate change research continues to inspire generations. This collaborative initiative between the University of Jos and the Centre of Excellence in Ornithological Research (APLORI) provides a platform for dialogue on pressing environmental issues. It brings together experts, researchers, and practitioners to share insights and proffer solutions in the field of conservation practice and learning. The guest speaker is Tunde Morakinyo a Community Forestry and Tropical Forest Conservation Specialist with 30 years’ experience in implementing natural resource management projects. He is the Executive Director for Africa Nature Investors (ANI) Foundation which is focussed on the protection and development of Gashaka Gumti National Park and Okomu National Park in Nigeria.
