Prof. Bako Secures NUC Approval for Commencement of Five Communication Programmes in TSUJ

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted final approval for the unbundling of Mass Communication programme into five specialised degree programmes in Taraba State University, Jalingo (TSUJ)
The approval, secured under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, marks the successful completion of a process that began with the University's resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC. The newly approved programmes will commence in the 2026/2027 academic session.
With the development, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies will now offer B.Sc. Advertising, B.Sc. Broadcasting, B.Sc. Journalism and Media Studies, B.Sc. Public Relations, alongside the already accredited B.Sc. Mass Communication.
The approval represents a significant step in aligning Taraba State University with the National Universities Commission's policy on the unbundling of Mass Communication, a reform already implemented in several federal and state universities across Nigeria. It is also expected to provide students with more specialised training and better prepare graduates for the evolving media and communication industry.
Speaking on the achievement, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Dr. Destiny Oberiri Apuke, described the approval as a landmark accomplishment for the University.
"This is a defining moment for our faculty and the University as a whole. The approval reflects the sincere commitment of our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, whose visionary leadership has continued to reposition Taraba State University in line with global best practices.
