BASIC REQUIREMENTS TO START AND GROW A SNAIL FARMING BUSINESS

1. GOOD SPECIE.

It's advisable to rear the hybrid species because they're more profitable and viable in the market.

2. WATER AVAILABILITY.

For the farm to continue all season, there must be availability of water especially during the dry season of the year.

3. SOIL STRUCTURE.

A conducive soil structure must be made available for effective growth, free movement and egg hatching.

4. WELL STRUCTURED AND REALISTIC BUSINESS PLAN.

There are some opportunities in snail farming business - both for consumption and industrial purposes. The most important opportunities are listed below:
• SNAIL SLIME. This is a mucus like external body secretions which is produced by snails. It's in high demand for export and sold in tonnes. It's used for drug and cosmetics production, those who have the connection to export snail slime says 'it's sold at a very expensive amount.'

• MEAT PRODUCTION. Snails are highly proteinous and highly demanded for by people for both family and commercial consumption.

• SNAIL SHELL. This is in very high demand. It's a very heavy source of calcium source, hence it's used to produce animal feeds as a calcium source. Snail shell is also used in other industries like construction, paper, ceramic and paint production.

Before starting snail farming business, you have to consider some characteristics of snails that will help boost your business. Effective management of these characteristics will contribute a lot to the success of your snail farming business.

What are those characteristics?

• Snails are 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗣𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗦.

This means that each snail has both male (s***m) and female organ (eggs). This is wonderful and is the major secret behind the rapid growth in snail farming business. If you start with 1000 snails, all of them will drop eggs - which is not the same in other agric business like fishery, piggery, grasscutter, and so on.

• Snails are 𝗢𝗠𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗢𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗦.

This means that they feed on plants and animals. The cost of feeding in snail farming is very low when compared with other farming business.

• Snails are 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘.

They lay enough eggs and can provide conducive environment for the eggs to hatch. This is an added advantage to the snail farmer. Snails have some cultural and religious barriers, hence you must carry out your research properly to avoid establishing your farm in an affected area.

• Snails love 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗗 and 𝗛𝗨𝗠𝗜𝗗 environment.

Dry season is the worst season for snails as they do hibernate during the dry season. Commercial snail farmers must never allow the snail to hibernate, hence the snail farm must be watered constantly during the dry seasons.

• Snails are 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗦.

They move, mate and play more in the night, so enough food must be made available for them during the night period. Also, don't put electric light were they are kept to avoid interrupting their night season.

• Snails are 𝗗𝗘𝗙𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦.

They are easily preyed by other animals. They have no way to fight back when attacked by an enemy. Their only defense is the Farmer. Be ready to guard them.

1. The farmers who will ultimately become very rich are first and foremost very passionate about farming and are willing to suffer for it. Many farmers packed up because they are only interested in making money fast with very little or no passion for farming.

2. The Farmers who will ultimately become very rich are very business minded. From my interactions and experience, I have seen that not all farmers are business minded.

3. The farmers who will ultimately become very rich see money or the profits they make as a tool for more and more investments. The farmers who sees money or profits as a way to buy stuff or toys will never be rich.

4. The farmers who will ultimately become very rich see risks as something they can't afford not to take. Poor farmers are always afraid to take calculated risks. They love playing it safe always.

5. The farmers who will ultimately become very rich always see marketing as an investment that is a must on constant basis. Poor farmers always see marketing as a cost. They only want marketing resources when it is free.

6. The farmers who will ultimately become very rich are always thinking big, positive and prosperity even when they are still very small. A big farmer who is very small minded and negative will ultimately become poor.

7. The farmers who will ultimately become very rich are willing to spend their last penny to upgrade their knowledge. Poor farmers only want information when it is free though they won't give away their farm products for free. Funny. Isn't it?

So, if you want to join the rich farmers community, you have to take note of the facts.
