*The Shifting Ground: What Imo State Polytechnic’s Constant Relocation Means for Everyone.*
Onyewuenyi Jude C.
__Ag Director ICT_, Imopoly, Omuma
For nearly two decades, Imo State Polytechnic has stood as a symbol of polytechnic education in Imo State. It has been a hub for innovation, skill and agricultural development. It began its journey at Umuagwo as MOCA (Michael Okpara College of Agriculture. Over the years, it has worn many faces and seen many towns! From a one campus structure at Umuagwo, to a multi-campus structure with campuses at Orlu, Mbano and Ikeduru to a merged institution in Omuma, and now, it is once again on the move.
The government’s latest plan is to relocate the Polytechnic to Awomama and rename it B. U. Nzeribe State Polytechnic, while converting the Omuma site into a new university – University of Science, Innovation and Technology.
But what do these constant changes really mean? Behind the big headlines lie deep implications for program/course accreditation, for staff, for students, and even for the reputation of technical education in Imo State.

Every institution builds its identity over time. This is done through its name, its alumni, and its legacy.

This confusion doesn’t just affect branding; it erodes credibility. Stability is a key sign of seriousness in education, and without it, public confidence declines and may even become nonexistent.
*2. NBTE and Accreditation Hurdles*
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) does not only accredit programmes; it accredits physical facilities like classrooms, labs, workshops, hostels, medical centers, libraries etc. When a polytechnic moves, NBTE must re-evaluate everything.
That means possible accreditation delays, programme suspensions, and loss of momentum for ongoing appr
