When we talk about water being safe to drink, do we say 'Portable' or 'Potable'?

To find the answer, let us get the meaning of both words.

🌼 PORTABLE

This is an adjective that means something being 'easy to carry or to move'.

🔹 Examples:

✅ That is a portable TV.

✅ The teacher brought a portable speaker to class for the listening exercise.

✅ I bought a portable fan that I can take with me anywhere.

✅ Her laptop is small and portable, making it perfect for travel.

✅ We used a portable stove while camping in the forest.

We're not talking about the person who sang 'Zazoo'. 😅

🌼 POTABLE

This means 'safe to drink'.

🔹 Examples:

✅ During emergencies, people rely on stored potable water.

✅ The government is working to supply potable water to rural areas.

✅ Rainwater can become potable if properly treated.

✅ Access to potable water is a basic human need.

✅ Without potable water, the risk of disease increases.

So whenever you're talking about water being safe to drink, the right adjective to use is 'potable'.
