KWASUED Holds Maiden SIWES Pre-Placement Orientation Programme for Students
In line with its commitment to producing career-ready graduates, the Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin successfully hosted the Maiden Edition of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Pre-Placement Orientation Programme for students of the Faculty of Educational Technology, Faculty of Science Teacher Education, and Faculty of Business Education.
The programme was officially declared open by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Medinat Folorunso Salman, who reaffirmed the University's commitment to equipping students with the practical knowledge and workplace competencies required to excel in their chosen careers.
In his welcome address, the SIWES Coordinator, Dr. Olumide Salami, charged students to approach their industrial training with diligence, professionalism, and a willingness to learn. A goodwill message was delivered by the Ag. Head of the Department of Life Sciences Education, Dr. Abdulrahim Basira Jibril on behalf of the Dean of Student Affairs, encouraging participants to uphold the values of the University throughout their industrial attachment.
The orientation also featured the Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Ilorin Area Office, and his team, who enlightened students on the objectives of SIWES, the proper use of SIWES documents, procedures for the payment of SIWES allowances, workplace ethics, safety measures, and employers' expectations during industrial attachment.
As part of the technical session, the Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Business Education, Professor Khadijat A. Yahaya delivered an insightful presentation on employers' expectations and safety tips during industrial attachment, while a Lecturer 1 in the Computer Science Unit, Dr. Iyanda Y. Jimoh guided students on the University's procedures and guidelines for writing a comprehensive SIWES report.
The programme concluded with an engaging interactive session, during which students had the opportunity to ask questions and receive practical guidance from the resource persons.
The maiden orientation programme underscores KWASUED's dedication to preparing students for successful industrial training experiences and fostering graduates who are academically grounded, professionally competent, and industry-ready.
