KWASUED Holds Maiden SIWES Pre-Placement Orientation Programme for Students

In line with its commitment to producing career-ready graduates, the Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin successfully hosted the Maiden Edition of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Pre-Placement Orientation Programme for students of the Faculty of Educational Technology, Faculty of Science Teacher Education, and Faculty of Business Education.

The programme was officially declared open by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Medinat Folorunso Salman, who reaffirmed the University's commitment to equipping students with the practical knowledge and workplace competencies required to excel in their chosen careers.

In his welcome address, the SIWES Coordinator, Dr. Olumide Salami, charged students to approach their industrial training with diligence, professionalism, and a willingness to learn. A goodwill message was delivered by the Ag. Head of the Department of Life Sciences Education, Dr. Abdulrahim Basira Jibril on behalf of the Dean of Student Affairs, encouraging participants to uphold the values of the University throughout their industrial attachment.

The orientation also featured the Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Ilorin Area Office, and his team, who enlightened students on the objectives of SIWES, the proper use of SIWES documents, procedures for the payment of SIWES allowances, workplace ethics, safety measures, and employers' expectations during industrial attachment.

As part of the technical session, the Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Business Education, Professor Khadijat A. Yahaya delivered an insightful presentation on employers' expectations and safety tips during industrial attachment, while a Lecturer 1 in the Computer Science Unit, Dr. Iyanda Y. Jimoh guided students on the University's procedures and guidelines for writing a comprehensive SIWES report.

The programme concluded with an engaging interactive session, during which students had the opportunity to ask questions and receive practical guidance from the resource persons.

The maiden orientation programme underscores KWASUED's dedication to preparing students for successful industrial training experiences and fostering graduates who are academically grounded, professionally competent, and industry-ready.

It is with great joy and honour that I welcome you all to the maiden (2025/2026) edition of the SIWES Pre-Placement Orientation Programme of the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.

SIWES is part of the academic programme of the University, particularly designed for some programmes to expose the students to required practical skills and field experience. Although many programmes are approved by the NUC and ITF for SIWES placement, the programmes currently scheduled for SIWES placement in KWASUED include Accounting Education, Agricultural Science Education, Business Education, Computer Science Education, Electrical Electronics Education and Entrepreneurship Education.

To our students: You must know that you are not just going out there to learn, but you are representing KWASUED wherever you may be posted to for the attachment. I encourage you to be focused and not engage in any activities that can bring disrepute to your image and that of the university. You are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the organization you are posted to, let them see the true image of KWASUED in you.
It is important to state that you will be visited by the staff of the University as well as the ITF officials during your period of attachment and if you are found wanting, you will be penalized as well as repeat the SIWES (attachment).

I want to sincerely appreciate the University Management under the leadership of a dynamic, highly resourceful scholar and mother indeed, Prof. M. F. SALMAN, for their continuous support for the SIWES unit and more importantly students’ academic development.
I also thank the ITF Area manager and the entire staff of the ITF Ilorin for their support, guidance and inclusion in the ITF programme.

I wish to state that, as the Pioneer SIWES Coordinator of the university, I will do all my best to make sure KWASUED is not lagging behind

KWASUED Faculty of Humanities Holds Lecture on Sustainable Development and Environmental Sustainability

The Faculty of Humanities, Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), recently hosted an enlightening lecture on Sustainable Development and Environmental Sustainability, aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and values needed to contribute meaningfully to environmental protection and sustainable national development.

The event was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Saidu S., alongside the Sub-Dean, Mr. Ijaiya B. A., the Head of Department, Dr. Bello Fatai Okanla, and other esteemed members of the Faculty, whose presence reflected the Faculty's unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of its students.

The lecture featured presentations by officials from the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) and the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA). The resource persons enlightened students on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), environmental sustainability, sanitation, environmental compliance, waste management, and the collective responsibility of protecting the environment for present and future generations.

Students actively participated in the interactive session, engaging the speakers with thoughtful questions and gaining practical insights into environmental conservation and sustainable living.

The Faculty of Humanities appreciates the contributions of the guest speakers and reaffirms its commitment to exposing students to impactful learning experiences that prepare them to become responsible citizens and agents of positive change.

KWASUED Life Science Education Students Harvest and Market Maize Produce

Students of the Department of Life Science Education, Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin, have successfully harvested maize cultivated as part of their practical agricultural training and sold the produce to members of the University community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Medinat Folorunso Salman, accompanied by members of the University Management Team, inspected the freshly harvested maize presented by students of the Department of Life Science Education. The Vice-Chancellor commended the initiative, describing it as a practical demonstration of the University's commitment to experiential learning, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She noted that exposing students to hands-on agricultural activities equips them with valuable skills for self-reliance and sustainable development.

Also present were the Dean, Faculty of Science Teacher Education, Prof. G. Bello; the Dean, Faculty of Educational Sciences and Leadership, Prof. Muhammad-Lawal Abdulazeez; the Head of the Department of Life Science Education, Dr. Abdulrahim Basira Jibril; the Course Lecturer, Mr. Oba A. Ibrahim; as well as Mr. Fatai Kamorudeen and Mrs. Saheed Fausiyat Bamidele, both staff members of the Department of Life Science Education.

The successful harvest and sale of the maize provided students with practical experience in crop production, agribusiness, and marketing, reflecting KWASUED's dedication to producing graduates who possess both academic knowledge and practical skills for national development.

KWASUED Concludes Maiden Inter-Faculty Quiz Competition, Celebrates Academic Excellence
The Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin, through the Students' Affairs Unit, has successfully concluded its maiden 2025/2026 Inter-Faculty Quiz Competition, held from Wednesday, 15th to Friday, 17th July, 2026, at Hall B of the University.
The three-day competition, which featured students from the University's five faculties, was organised to promote academic excellence, healthy intellectual rivalry, teamwork and the pursuit of knowledge among students.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Medinat Folorunso Salman, declared the competition open and commended the Students' Affairs Unit for initiating an academic programme that encourages academic excellence beyond the classroom. She urged participants to embrace the competition in the spirit of learning, fairness and sportsmanship while striving for excellence.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Ag. Dean of Students' Affairs, Prof. Alafara A. Baba, welcomed participants and guests, noting that the competition was designed to foster intellectual development, collaboration and healthy interaction among students across the University's faculties.
The event also featured an opening speech by the Students' General Representative, a cultural performance by the KWASUED Creative Art Troupe, two exciting rounds of quiz sessions, and the announcement of the final results.
At the end of the keenly contested competition, the Faculty of Educational Technology emerged as the overall winner, while the Faculty of Science Teacher Education secured the second position. The Faculty of Business Education came third, followed by the Faculty of Humanities Education in fourth place, while the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Leadership finished fifth.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Barakat B. Ibrahim, who appreciated the University Management, organisers, participants and all stakeholders for contributing to the success of the maiden edition of the competition.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Gabriel A. Adeoye, whose efforts, alongside those of the organising committee, ensured the smooth and successful ex*****on of the event.
Congratulations to all participating faculties for their outstanding performance, team spirit and commitment to academic excellence.

I must appreciate the University Management under the leadership of a dynamic and highly resourceful scholar, Prof. M. F. Salman, for their continuous support for students’ academic development. My sincere gratitude also goes to the Students' Affairs Welfare/Planning Committee, the Staff of Faculties, our Judges, and the Students Affairs Unit staff, for putting this together.

As the Acting Dean of Students Affairs, my office remains committed to creating platforms where you can grow beyond the classroom — intellectually, socially, and morally. Events of this nature, no doubt, help build unity across faculties and prepare you for national and global challenges.

KWASUED Empowers Students Through Inspiring Career Talk Programme

As part of its commitment to preparing students for success beyond the classroom, the Department of Accounting Education, Faculty of Business Education, Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin, Nigeria, organized a stimulating Career Talk Programme for students.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Medinat Folorunso Salman, declared the programme open in the presence of the University Management Team, the Dean of the Faculty of Business Education, Prof. Khadijat Adetola Yahaya, the Head of the Department of Accounting Education, Dr. Olumide Lateef Salami, members of staff, students, and other distinguished guests.

In her opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor urged students to pursue excellence, embrace innovation, and develop the knowledge, skills, and character required to thrive in their chosen professions. She reaffirmed the University's commitment to producing graduates who are globally competitive and equipped to make meaningful contributions to society.

The programme featured insightful presentations by Prof. A. S. Kasum and Hon.
