DEAN, SCHOOL OF LAW, RECEIVES COURTESY VISIT FROM NAKLAS HEADQUARTERS

On Monday, 24th November 2025, the Dean of the School of Law, Ustadh Kamaldeen Sofiyullah Kamaldeen, received a courtesy visit from the leadership of the National Association of Kwara State Law Students (NAKLAS) Headquarters.

The delegation, led by the NAKLAS Headquarters President and accompanied by the Assistant General Secretary, visited the Dean to strengthen institutional ties and to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting the academic and professional development of Kwara State law students.

During the visit, the NAKLAS executives formally notified the Dean of their proposed programme, which includes the launching of a book in honour of the Emir of Ilorin. They further requested the Dean’s support and contribution towards the successful ex*****on of the event.

In his remarks, Ustadh Kamaldeen Sofiyullah Kamaldeen expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the School’s dedication to support student-focused initiatives that encourage academic excellence, discipline, and innovation, particularly the NAKLAS Kwara CAILS Chapter.

The NAKLAS Headquarters executives, who are alumni of the School, commended the Dean for his continuous support for student bodies and pledged to maintain a robust partnership with the School of Law for the advancement of law students statewide.

Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin: A beacon of academic excellence in the heart of Nigeria

Established in the year 1992, the college has been a citadel of academic pursuits for all and sundry. But in recent times, the college fell on some hard times that almost grounded both academic and nonacademic operations of the institution till the assumption of office the administration of Governor Abdulrahaman abdulrazaq.

However, the last two years administration of the Since Acting Provost, Dr. Sa'ad Hadi, the College has recorded significant progress in various areas, including staff welfare, academic development, infrastructure, financial stability, and stakeholder engagement. Make the combo of the duo a formidable force.

Since the assumption of office by the Acting Provost, the College has recorded significant progress in staff welfare, academic development, infrastructure, financial stability, and stakeholder engagement.

The College has achieved several firsts in its history, including the establishment of an Alumni and Public Relations Centre, headed by a Director with dedicated staff.

The creation of a Data and Statistics Unit in the Registry, headed by a Deputy Registrar, has also enhanced data-driven decision-making."

The commencement of the first-ever student hostel construction is a significant milestone, providing on-campus accommodation and boosting Internally Generated Revenue.

The College has also become the first institution in Nigeria to secure NBTE approval for ND Law and ND Sharia/Civil Law programmes.

Staff welfare has been a top priority, with the implementation of 2023 and 2024 staff promotions with financial benefits.

The payment of Peculiar allowance for staff with 6 months arrears cleared has also boosted staff morale.

The revival of the Ramadan welfare package and upward review of casual staff stipends have also contributed to staff satisfaction.

Staff now enjoy uninterrupted monthly salaries, providing financial stability and security.

The College has achieved significant academic milestones, including full NBTE accreditation for six ND programmes.

A 100% pass rate in the 2024 TRCN re-accreditation is a testament to the College's commitment to academic excellence.

The College has also cleared TRCN debt inherited to sustain the PDE programme.

Ongoing steps to introduce IJMB and Special Professional Diploma in Education under the regulation of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria are also underway.

Infrastructure development has received a boost with the installation of a 3,300KVA central power transformer, courtesy of the Governor.

The Alumni-supported construction of a Law Moot Court is also ongoing, providing practical legal training for students.

The College has also secured assurance from the National Communication Commission to provide e-learning resources and a one-year subscription for the College Library.

Integration into the Kwara State Health Insurance Scheme has also improved healthcare delivery for staff and students.

Security measures have been enhanced with the replacement of night guards with trained vigilantes to curb theft.

CCTV has been installed at the College transformer point for its security.

Solar lighting has been initiated for security support, and compulsory computer training has been introduced for all students.

The College Internet Centre and Computer laboratory have also been solarised for uninterrupted power supply.

The College has transitioned from financial instability to sustainability, with innovative entrepreneurship initiatives and sustainable revenue-generating sources.

A monthly augmentation fund of ₦9 million was secured for 7 months, rescuing the College from near financial collapse and averting difficulties in the payment of full salaries.

The College has introduced creative entrepreneurship and IGR initiatives, including a block-making industry, student skills acquisition programs, and 'Stream 2' admissions.

The College Bulletin publication has also been launched, providing a new platform for academic and community engagement.

Plans are ongoing for fundraising partnerships with alumni and community stakeholders to strengthen financial resilience.

The College is also engaging with key stakeholders, including the Governing Council, TETFUND, and the State Minister of Education, to secure special interventions and support for solar power provision.

Under the leadership of the Acting Provost, CAILS is building a more sustainable and resilient financial foundation, ensuring a brighter future for its students and staff.

Visitation of Law Students to Kwara State Juvenile Home and Correctional Centre, Okekura, Ilorin

On the 3rd of September, 2025, in line with the directive from the Office of the Dean, School of Law, the Law Students' Association (LASA) of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, led by the Head of the Department of Common Law, Barr. Ibrahim Shuaib and the LASA President, Abdullahi Monsur Opeyemi, paid a visit to both the Juvenile Central Correctional Service under the Kwara State Ministry of Social Development and the Correctional Centre, Okekura, Ilorin.

As part of the visit, the students made the following donations:

To the Juvenile Home:

1 bag of rice

1 bag of 5kg semovita

60 pieces of toothbrushes

*To the Correctional Centre, Okekura, Ilorin:*

2 buckets of garri

60 pieces of toothbrushes

4 dozen kulikuli

12 bathroom slippers

The visitation was aimed at encouraging community service, deepening students’ understanding of juvenile justice and prisoners' rights, as well as extending care and support to young persons and inmates at the facilities.
