Al-Fuḍayl (رحمه الله):

إنما نزل القرآن ليُعمل به، فاتخذ الناس قراءته عملًا.

“The Qur’an was only revealed to be acted upon, but the people took its recitation as action.”

It was said to him: “How is it to be acted upon?”

He said:

أي ليُحِلوا حلاله، ويُحرِّموا حرامه، ويأتمروا بأوامره، وينتهوا عن نواهيه، ويقفوا عند عجائبه.

That they make its ḥalāl lawful, its ḥarām forbidden, follow its commands, avoid its prohibitions, and pause in reflection at its wonders.’

The Messenger of Allāh Ṣallallāhu-'Alaihi Wa Sallam said: “If the Qur’an is placed in leather skin, then thrown into fire, it would not burn.”

How amazing,
and the Quran is truly amazing!
Allah began the Surah Ar-Rahman by mentioning His teaching of the Quran, saying: 'The Most Merciful, He has taught the Quran.'

Perhaps the reason for starting with that is that the Quran is one of the greatest manifestations of His mercy.
According to Qatadah in His statement: 'Say: "It is by the bounty of Allah and His mercy that you should rejoice..."' - His bounty refers to Islam, and His mercy refers to the Quran."

And among the subtleties of this is that He began listing the types of His mercy with teaching the Quran, and concluded with bestowing His favor upon those who fear His majesty with two Gardens (of Paradise).

So, no one reaches the abode of His mercy (Jannah) except by being steadfast upon His mercy (the Quran),
and to the extent of your steadfastness upon His mercy (the Quran),
you will attain His mercy (Paradise).

az-Zahrawaan (the two bright ones) — These two soorahs are al-Baqarah and Aal ‘Imraan.

It was proven in a hadeeth narrated by Imaam Muslim, (rahimahullah)

that Abu Umaamah al-Baahili (rahimahullaah) said:

I heard the Messenger of Allaah (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) say:

Read the Quran, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection to intercede for its companions (those who read it).

Read az-Zahrawaan (the two bright ones), Al-Baqarah and Aal e ‘Imraan,
for they will come on the Day of Resurrection like
• two clouds or
• like two shades or
• two flocks of birds spreading their wings,
pleading for those who recite them.

Recite Soorat Al-Baqarah, for taking recourse to it is a blessing and giving it up is a cause of loss, and the magicians cannot confront it.

[Salaat al-Musaafireen, 1337 and Sahih Muslim, 804a, Sahih Muslim, Book 6, Hadith 302]

an-Nawawi (rahimahullah) said in his commentary on Saheeh Muslim: they said, they (Surah Baqarah and Aal e ‘Imran) are called al-Zahrawaan (the two bright ones) because of their light and guidance, and the greatness of their reward.
