Day 5 with JSS2 was all about reading like a detective. ๐Ÿ”

We practised:
โ†’ Finding clues in the text
โ†’ Matching emotions to characters
โ†’ Pausing at punctuation: because every full stop, comma, and exclamation mark tells a story.

We modelled it first, and then they mirrored it back with confidence.
Itโ€™s not just reading.

Itโ€™s thinking, feeling, and responding: one sentence at a time. ๐Ÿ’™
Proud of their focus and their voices! ๐ŸŒŸ

Day 4: Spelling Bee = Pure fun! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“š

Yesterday, our JSS1 learners turned tricky words into a game: breaking them down with phonics, sounding out loud, and owning every syllable.

What couldโ€™ve been stressful? Became laughter, claps, and โ€œI got this!โ€ moments.

When learning feels like play: you know itโ€™s working. ๐Ÿ’™

Proud of every bold speller. ๐ŸŒŸ

Day 3
Building the basics strong! ๐Ÿ’ช

Our JSS1 class focused on phoneme-grapheme connections: matching sounds to letters with clear examples.

From /b/ to /sh/, the students practiced, repeated, and responded with growing confidence.
Small steps, big progress.

Proud of their focus and energy!
Onward to Day 4. ๐Ÿ’™

Day 2: Success! ๐ŸŽ‰

Our JSS2 students took charge reading ๐˜‹๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏโ€™๐˜ต ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฌ ๐˜Š๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ข ๐˜ฃ๐˜บ ๐˜๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ค๐˜ข ๐˜š๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ with confidence and expression. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

They didnโ€™t just read. They thought:
๐Ÿ”น Who were the โ€œgoodiesโ€?
๐Ÿ”น Who were the โ€œbaddiesโ€?
๐Ÿ”น And why do some kids act that way?

It was more than reading; it was empathy in action.
Proud of our young leaders. ๐ŸŒฑ

Canโ€™t wait for Day 3.

We read the storybook โ€œHarryโ€™s Monkeyโ€ by Robina Beckles Willson.

There was a powerful โ€œAha momentโ€ when the students collectively agreed that having a monkey as a pet is definitely a โ€œno-noโ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚. Their understanding and participation were impressive.

Special mention to Emmanuel, who has cerebral palsy. With gentle guidance, he bravely read two full paragraphs today. We are so proud of his courage and effort! ๐Ÿ‘

Moments like this remind us why we do this work.
Keep shining, JSS1! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐ŸŽ‰ Weโ€™re Back. And Just Getting Started!

Next week, BLAN returns to our very first school, with full approval and the principalโ€™s heartfelt support. ๐Ÿ™Œ

This isnโ€™t just a restart.
Itโ€™s a reaffirmation: that our work matters, and that children are eager to learn, grow, and shine.

Grateful for every partner, volunteer, and believer who made this possible.

The journey continues: one child, one word, one step at a time. ๐Ÿ’™

Happy Earth Day!

Today, and every day, we teach our children:
The same care we give to reading, we must give to our planet.

At Beacon Literacy Advancement Network, weโ€™re learning to:
โ™ป๏ธ Reuse paper for drawing & writing
๐ŸŒฑ Plant small gardens with recycled bottles
๐Ÿ“š Read stories about nature & kindness
Because protecting the Earth isnโ€™t a lesson for later.

It starts now: in how we learn, play, and grow.
Happy from our little readers to yours. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ“–
