On Wednesday 23rd of August, 2017, teamfarz initiatives organized a career talk for the secondary school students of Offa grammar school, Offa town kwara state. Teamfarz initiative which aims at providing academic help to student at various levels of institutions has restricted its maiden program to the secondary school level and was able to reach out to over 100 students of Offa grammar school.
The program which was mastered by Mr. Basher Lukman Olarewaju started at exactly 10:15am with the opening prayer by one of the students of the secondary school, and then followed by the introduction of teamfarz initiative by a prominent member of the initiatives Mr. Gegele Taiye Abdullah. In his speech yesterday Mr. Gegele Taiye Abdullah said the initiative is still coming up with mighty pivots and that the initiative is ready to help students improve their academic lives. He also told the students that this career talk is to help them lay a very good foundation against their future.
The guest lecturer of the day in person of Mr. Tijani Sheriffdeen Opeyemi who was cited to be the CEO of TSmedia and the president of the faculty of basic medical sciences students association, Unilorin chapter then took it up from there. He presented the topic “the value of life”. He made the students understood how a choice of path can determine a future with an essence. He was also able to explain what value is, in relation to a future path, types of value (positive and negative), and the importance of value. He had cited an example of a 16 year old girl Zuriel Oduwole that has met with a hundred presidents across the world making it clear that once the right path is chosen, positive value begins to set in.
The second speaker of the event, Mr. Ibrahim Faruq Olamilekan who was cited to be the CEO of teamfarz initiatives, also the CEO of tofarz global educational consults present the second topic which was “a choice of path”. During his speech he made it known that all paths are of equal values, only individual values can set hierarchy to them; he said “the teaching profession, the medical profession, the law practice, the construction profession are all equal provided that they are chosen wisely”. He made example of the vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin as a teacher with value because he choose wisely. Before he left the podium to his sit, the explained strength, parental factors and peer influence as factors that can influence choice of path, he was also able to explain how to choose a path that can serve as the beginning of a future with an essence, and the importance of choosing a right path.
The question and answer session anchored by the master of the event Mr. Basher Luqman Olarewaju lasted for about 45minutes, the answer were provided not just by the speakers but other members that formed the answering panel, including the representative of the principal of Offa grammar school, the first and second speakers, the national president of Offa students union, the presidents of Offa students’ union Unilorin and Usman Dan Fodio university (Udusok) chapters, two members of teamfarz initiatives and a staff of Offa grammar school. Some of the questions and answers are: A student asked what he would need to become a novelist, this question was answered by a staff of the school and the president of Offa students’ union Udusok chapter that such student needs to be imaginative, always inquisitive and take care of English language and literature. Another student asked how to become a farmer and he was advised by Mr. Gegele Taiye Abdullah to study agriculture in the university after he has made research of the various branches of agriculture which some were listed. Another student asked about the girl that has met over a hundred presidents. The students happened to have read about the girl and her question was “her father left his job to support her, can a typical Nigerian father do the same?”. The question was left to Mr. Tijani Sheriffdeeen to answer since he introduced that in his speech. Mr. Tijani made a comment about that and the Mr. Ibrahim Faruq also buttressed his points. In the CEO’s comment he said “parental love for children’s success is same across the world, if an American father can do that, a Nigerian father can do that too, haven’t we heard stories of Nigerian parents that sold their jewelries to make sure their children are successful?. But the problem now is can a Nigerian child think like that? If a Nigerian child can think like that and request such from his or her parent with sincerity, such parents can even do more than that”. He then advised the students to be more serious at whatever they want, be good children at home and to dream and aim high.
Just before the vote of thanks, teamfarz inaugurated 10 members of the crowd on merit to form a club in that school and the initiative will always get back to the students of the school through the club. And then the vote of thanks and closing prayer was done by Miss Mustapha kawthar who is also a member of teamfarz initiative.
