For some time now, since I resumed work at my new place of assignment, I have been thinking about what can be done differently, especially for the students. What can be done? What life lesson beyond the four walls of the classroom can these students be empowered with?
From these thoughts, the idea of activating an SDGs Club was born. And immediately, I reached out to like-minded individuals to ensure it becomes a reality. The goal is simple: to give our students the kind of exposure, awareness, and opportunities that truly prepare them for life.
And yes, we were able to finally do something weβve always wanted to do with the club.
We are thankful to the Young African Leaders Initiative Network, Mustapha Akanbi Library, and the Kayode Alabi Leadership and Career Initiatives for honouring us with their presence.
It was truly an impactful session with the teachers, as we discussed and explored some AI tools for educators and how these tools can help ease their classroom activities and make teaching more effective.
And most importantly, we had a powerful session with the students. It was truly impactful. They were taken on a journey through what leadership really entails, the importance of self-development, and how these two areas can guide them in making wise career choices.
We also explored the Rafiki AI career tool and discovered many career options the students can pursue based on their area of specialization, whether they are science, commercial, or art majors.
Watching the eagerness, curiosity and excitement on their faces while exploring the Rafiki AI app, seeing them realize that they are not limited to becoming just a doctor, banker, or lawyer as those are the set of career choices they grow up hearing around them, but knowing they actually have so many exciting career paths to choose from made the essence of this program worth every effort.
