Take note of this...
The subtle art of giving the mind a rest is going by the way of Not Trying.
From my own point of view, trying is mounting weight on an already fragile heart. The fact that some riff-raffs tried and failed should be an eye-opener for you, my pal.
This matter requires proper ratiocination, and not the type which makes you jump to conclusions.
Think of the heart as a man who is ready to work but fragile; this makes him fall sick when he is overwhelmed with work to do. Consequently, the man will do his best and certainly leave the rest.
So, let us apply this to the heart. When it tries to cater for everything, the one within its control and the one beyond it, it will break in the long run. So, this is why the heart/mind needs to take a break.
Meditating, I realized we take too many things seriously, thereby giving the mind more work to do. For instance, a show got canceled a show you so much love got canceled—and you, as a die-hard fan of the presenter or anchor of the show, got angry. Then, you later reflect on your anger, and you did not like the reason why you got so angry because of that trivial thing. Then you get pi**ed off again for getting angry, and you get pi**ed off for getting angry again, and the sequence continues until it drives you crazy and leaves you depressed, at that point in time you realize what the riff raffs were trying to do and what brings about their failure.
With this, the answer appears to the lingering question on your mind: “Not trying to do what?”
So, don't try to take everything seriously. Choose what you think is important to take seriously. And eventually, you get to give the mind a break frequently, rather than busying it with doing nothing tangible so much that it becomes not idle but not productive; instead, it gets crushed.
In essence, don't try to give your attention to everything. Choose what to give attention to and when to give attention to things.
Thank you for taking note.
