“Why Your Voice Isn’t Making the Impact It Should, and How to Fix It.”

I remember a time when I spoke with so much passion, yet somehow, my voice just didn’t carry. People liked me, sure, but they didn’t really remember what I had to say.

I’d share these powerful ideas, but they felt like they just disappeared into the background noise.

Then I had this realization that It’s not just about the words you choose. It’s all about how you deliver them.

When your voice lacks clarity, control, or conviction, it can really dim your presence, even if your message is pure gold.

Let’s change that today. Here’s how we can do it:

🔹 1. Control Your Pitch and Pace

Think of your pitch as your vocal fingerprint. If it’s too high, you might come off as anxious or unsure. If it’s too low, you risk sounding flat. Find that sweet spot.

Tip: Try reading short phrases out loud. Take it slow. Breathe between your thoughts. Let your words resonate.

🔹 2. Cut the Filler Words

“Umm,” “like,” “you know,” we all use them, but too many can really undermine your authority. Record yourself speaking, then listen back.

Circle every filler word you catch. Awareness is the first step to improvement.

🔹 3. Master the Pause

Great speakers know the power of a good pause. It gives your audience a moment to digest what you’ve said and adds weight to your message.

Don’t rush it. Trust in your words.

🔹 4. Mind Your Mouth Shape

Clear articulation comes from how you move your lips, tongue, and jaw. If you mumble, people will tune out.

Exercise: Practice saying words like “powerful,” “clarity,” and “impact” slowly. Feel how your mouth shapes each sound.

🔹 5. Train with Purpose

Your voice is like a muscle. You wouldn’t expect to build abs overnight, right?

The same goes for elocution.

40 ENGLISH TAUTOLOGIES

TAUTOLOGY

TAUTOLOGY in English refers to the needless repetition of an idea or meaning using different words. It often occurs when the same thing is said more than once in a slightly different way, making the expression redundant. A tautology doesn’t necessarily make a statement wrong grammatically, but it adds no new meaning, and is often considered a style or communication flaw — especially in formal writing or speech.

EXAMPLES OF TAUTOLOGY:

“Free gift” – All gifts are free by nature.

“Repeat again” – To repeat is to do something again.

“New innovation” – All innovations are by definition new.

Tautologies can occur in various contexts:

Spoken language (as a habit of emphasis or lack of vocabulary),

Written communication (due to poor editing),

Cultural expressions (some tautologies become idiomatic or widely accepted).

In Nigeria and many parts of the world, tautologies are often used unconsciously as part of everyday speech. Some are so culturally accepted that they sound "normal" even though they are redundant.
