TEACHERS REGISTRATION COUNCIL AND THE TEACHING PROFESSION IN NIGERIA

Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria has come to stay! The body must however move from being a teacher registration body to a teacher regulation body. I am moved to pity the future of the profession in Nigeria when registrable graduates assert that they only register with the body in the hope that it might get better. When will this be with teachers been maltreated in private schools and by the government? Where is the minimum wage policy for teachers supported by TRCN as championed by unions and professional bodies such as NUT, STAN, etc? We are aware of what the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and other Councils like ours have done for their members in this line among others.

This is not an attack on anyone but to whom much is given, much is equally expected. We hope our own Professor Segun Ajiboye is not towing the lines on other appointees to Registrarship and Directorship positions in Ministries, Departments and Agencies? I and other young persons in the profession raised our hopes in your ability to put things right in the profession on your assumption of office considering your outstanding accomplishments as an academic and a labour union leader. But it seems the story would always remain the same.

Yes, some might say the journey has started and it will take considerable time for the efforts to manifest.....Yet, we yearn to know what has been done thus far and what are the impediments to making Teaching Profession an enviable profession in Nigeria within the ambit of the time our amiable Professor and Activist has assumed office

I join other young teachers in Nigeria and those of us in the "e go better category" to request a stewardship report from the leadership of TRCN on the future of teachers in Nigeria vis-a-vis a wide range of factors least of which is teacher remuneration and motivation.

Please share till it gets to the appropriate quarters.

Knowledge is fluid, dynamic and leaning towards multidisciplinarity in the XXI century. The more you know, the more likely you are to contribute more towards humanity. So yours sincerely was admitted as a Fellow to Ife Institute of Advanced Studies for the 3rd Ife Summer School. The opening ceremony kicked off yesterday and I cannot but thank Providence for this opportunity. I am off to classes.
