Visited Deans of all faculties to establish swift academic issue resolution pathways.

Engaged the Osun State Commissioner of Police to enhance campus security and fair student treatment.

Visited the CMD of OAUTHC to address healthcare-related student concerns.

Held meetings with the Osun State Commissioner for Transport on road safety and transportation.

Renewed Objection to Alleged Dress Code by University Council and Management.

Great Ife,

1. The Great Ife Students’ Union is reaffirming its strong opposition to the trending alleged university management’s consideration of a dress code policy. Reflecting on past instances, including the misleading circulars that surfaced in 2023 and the subsequent management clarifications, we remain committed to protecting our rights.

2. These documents proposed harsh sanctions (just as the one circulated in 2023), which we view as an infringement on our freedom of expression as guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution.

3. Obafemi Awolowo University campus is a place of learning, and the introduction of sanctions such as rustication forone or two semesters for perceived “misconducts” stifles and violates students’ fundamental rights to freedom of expression, personal style, and individuality. It also undermines the right to personal liberty as enshrined in Section 35 CFRN, and may infringe on Section 37, which protects the privacy of citizens, including how they choose to present themselves.

4. We hereby call on the management to, just like it did in 2023, totally distance itself from these punitive measures that we find archaic and detrimental to the learning process.

5. Lastly, we also call on all students to stand together in unity against any measures that seek to undermine our rights and heritage, especially those that threaten to restrict freedom of thought, conscience, religion (Section 38), freedom of movement (Section 41), or discriminate against certain students based on appearance, belief, or identity (Section 42).
