ONE DAY TOURISM EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS.
On the 21st of May 2026, the Department of Architecture, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua in collaboration with The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) Akwa Ibom State Chapter, embarked on an exciting one-day tourism to the historic town of Ikot Abasi, under the leadership of the Head of Department and course lecturer, Ubong Esen and NIA's representative, Arc Senior Udoh.
Interaction with the built environment allows for better understanding of Architecture. This educational excursion provided our students with the opportunity of a firsthand experience of the relationship between architecture, history, culture and tourism.
Throughout the visit, students explored remarkable historical landmarks, observed diverse architectural styles and building techniques of the past while also examining how heritage conservation could contribute to tourism development in Nigeria. The experience reinforced classroom knowledge while nurturing critical observation, documentation, and analytical skills that are essential to every architect.
Beyond academics, the excursion fostered teamwork, strengthened staff-student relationships, and inspired our future architects to appreciate the importance of preserving our cultural and architectural heritage for the future generations.
Our Department remains committed to producing graduates who combine technical excellence, creativity, innovation, and practical experience to solve real-world challenges.
Sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the memorable educational adventure.
..we learn beyond the classroom... ..we design the future through experience.
