You have seen those videos; the ones with kids breaking the TV and the one with the boy who opened a car wash in the sitting room. You laughed but did not find it funny because, it's your son who should be in the videos. If you didn’t find all the extra cleaning and yelling you’ve had to do because of the lockdown hectic, maybe you’ll also have the time to make videos of your kids tearing down the house, eating like elephants and crying every ten minutes.

Mom/Dad, I gotcha!

Now, take a deep breath and slowly let it out.
This is new and you’re doing just fine. Today, accept that you are new at this and choose to learn how to parent your little one this season.

Now, take some chilled water.

Reposted from - What can you draw?
I grew up with people thinking I could really draw because my dad, is a fine artist. A fine arts teacher!
I loved fine arts but cared only about the theory.
Now I know how important the skill is.

Drawing has been extremely useful in teaching my pupils literacy. I've watched a whole classroom light up because of how funny my drawings look. 😆
This book is an easy guide to getting your kid drawing like a pro.
Get this for your art lover and watch their ability to draw take wings.
Shout out to (a true artist)
Recommended age: 6+

Independent reading is reading for the fun of it at the child's comfort level.

Introducing your child to reading independently can be fun if you get the right books.

When I pick books for children, I factor in a lot of things:

Reading age,
Hobbies and interests ,previously loved titles and some other important factors .

Let me help you pick books your kids won't be able to resist.
Books you'll literally beg them to drop.

How about twinning with books?

Max Lucado's books are beautifully written and have such spiritual depth.

Faith is an important value and it's never too early to get your little one into reading inspirational books. Children need spiritual depth too.

By the way, HERMIE ministered to me personally. Didn't Christ say we have to be like children?

Happy new year! It is 2 days into the new year already. Have you started working on your goals?

While I was writing my goals and making plans for the year, one aspect of my life that I had to take out time to plan for is PARENTING. My son is tres important to me and I had to make plans on what my parenting would look like in 2019.
One of my parenting goals for the new year is to READ TO MY SON EVEVRYDAY and work on his pre-writing skills. You would think that reading to my son would be easy for me because I am all about the gains of reading to children and I have access to a lot of books. Well, from my experience last year, it takes a lot of intentionality to raise a book lover. Like many mums, I have loads of stuff to do and fitting in time to read with my son has to be INTENTIONAL.

Reading to my son will afford us the opportunity to bond, even as he becomes print aware (print awareness is simply the ability to associate letters in a book as words that carry meaning just like spoken words) and also becomes socially aware.
This year, I want to be more intentional about reading to my son, intentional about the kind of books we read to him and intentional about developing his pre-writing skills.

What are your parenting plans for 2019? Less shouting, more communication? No spanking? More outdoor plays? What plans do you have for your children? How many books will they read this year? How much will you be spending on books and improving their literacy skills? How much TV will they watch on school nights? TV on weekends? How about read alouds?
If you want to truly raise a reader, you have to be intentional about it. You can’t just wish that your child will be a reader, you have to put in the work.

From tomorrow, I will be sharing tips on how to plan for your child’s reading in the new year. I’ll also be sharing what we are reading with my 1-year old son. So, look out for my posts.

I can help you plan your child's reading and also get books they are sure to love.

Let's talk.

Low income school?
No problem.

Until recently, I did not like low income schools. I just taught they were a nuisance. How wrong! Why would anyone send their children to a mushroom school? Why not just take the child to a to a public school?

I guess I forgot.... That in my secondary school, a public school (in a low income community), there were nothing less than 80 of us in a class per time. I remember that at a time we were about 120 in a class.
My younger sister too was in a class of about 150. Some of her classmates sat on the floor. The classrooms were always overcrowded. The teachers overworked.

The "mushroom" schools serve the community. Because of such schools, some children will be literate, some will get the opportunity to dream big.
The stats says that there are 13.2 million children out of school in Nigeria, making us the country with the highest number of out of school children. These low income schools are the Champions. The data would have been worse than it is.

I choose to see with new eyes, the low income schools, not too far from my house. I choose to see with new eyes the value they give.
I choose to empower such schools by doing all I can to help them give value.
I believe in the power of literacy, so I am helping low income schools set up their school/classroom library at budget friendly rates.

The picture below is a newly set up library for a low income school. On this shelf, there are over 100 books gotten for less than 40,000 naira. The children get to explore the world even if they cannot afford the luxury of touring the world YET.

You haven't started a home library for your child because you think it's expensive?

I love beautiful children books but I sometimes find them pricey.
I remember vividly the day I went to a popular bookstore with 5,000 naira to get some children books and I found out my money could only get 2 of the titles I wanted. I was stunned. What? 5000 naira? 2 books! Haha! 😯😬
Now, don't get me wrong. I thought children books were supposed to be cheaper because, well, they are children books! (They are published the same way adult books are published and are even more expensive to publish).
5000 on just two books at the time was big deal for me. I was heartbroken. How would my child ever get to read GOOD books if I couldn't afford to them? Was there a way around this problem of price?

Well, I found a way. Thrift books. I learnt how to such for cheap deals on children books. I'm glad I did. My son is glad I did.(He has boooooooks).
With the offer I'm about to make, you'll be glad you found me😁😂

Are you on a very tight budget but still want to set up a home library for your child(ren) ?

I can help you start up that library with as low as 2500 naira. No, it won't be 2 books 😉. You'll be getting at least 5 books(a mix of new and neatly used books).
With 2500 naira and an empty box of biscuits or noodles, your child will have his first library. Now, that's some frugal spending!
I'd jump at this offer if I were you.
You won't find books this cheap anywhere else.

Bulk purchase available.
