šŸ¬ WHAT IS DIABETES MELLITUS?

Diabetes Mellitus is a condition where the level of sugar (glucose) in your blood becomes too high.

But why does this happen?

Your body needs sugar for energy, yes,but it can’t use that sugar without a hormone called insulin, produced by the pancreas.

šŸ‘‰ Insulin helps move sugar from your blood into your cells.

🧠 So in simple terms:
Diabetes = High blood sugar because insulin is not working properly.

āš ļø There are 2 main ways this happens:

1ļøāƒ£ Type 1 Diabetes

šŸ‘‰ The body doesn’t produce insulin at all

2ļøāƒ£ Type 2 Diabetes

šŸ‘‰ The body produces insulin, but it doesn’t work effectively (this is the most common type

šŸ”„ Now here’s where it gets serious…
When insulin is not doing its job:
šŸ‘‰ Sugar stays in the blood
šŸ‘‰ Cells don’t get enough energy
šŸ‘‰ And over time, damage begins inside the body

šŸ’” If not controlled, it can affect:
šŸ‘ļø Eyes
ā¤ļø Heart
🩺 Kidneys
🧠 Brain
🦶 Nerves

🚨 Common signs people ignore:
Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Constant hunger
Fatigue
Slow healing wounds

šŸ’” Truth you should know:
You can look completely fine and still have high blood sugar.

šŸ‘‰ Have you checked your blood sugar recently?

šŸ«€ Your arteries are not supposed to carry traffic, but atherosclerosis turns them into a blocked highway🄹

Let’s break it down in a simple but powerful way šŸ‘‡

šŸ”¬ WHAT IS ATHEROSCLEROSIS?
Atherosclerosis is a condition where fatty substances (mainly cholesterol), calcium, and inflammatory cells build up inside your arteries.

Over time, this forms something called plaque.

Think of your artery like a smooth water pipe…
Now imagine dirt gradually sticking to the inner wall until water can barely pass through. That’s exactly what happens here.

āš ļø How does it start?
It doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a slow, silent process:
Damage to the artery wall

Caused by things like
High blood pressure
Smoking
High blood sugar (diabetes)
Cholesterol enters the wall

Bad cholesterol (LDL) slips into the damaged area.
Inflammation begins
Your body sends immune cells to ā€œfixā€ the problem, but instead, they trap the cholesterol and become foam cells.
Plaque forms

These foam cells + fats + calcium = fatty streaks → plaque
Artery narrows (hardens)
Blood flow becomes restricted.

🚨 Why is it dangerous?
Because it can lead to life-threatening conditions:
ā¤ļø Heart attack (if it blocks coronary arteries)
🧠 Stroke (if it blocks brain blood supply)
🦵 Peripheral artery disease (pain in legs when walking)

Even worse…
If a plaque ruptures, it can form a blood clot instantly and completely block blood flow.

😳 The scary part?
You might not feel anything for years…
Until suddenly:
Chest pain
Shortness of breath
Weakness on one side of the body
That’s why it’s often called a ā€œsilent killer.

🌱 Can it be prevented?

Yes and this is the hopeful part šŸ’š

Eat less saturated fat & fried foods
Exercise regularly šŸƒā€ā™€ļø
Stop smoking 🚭
Control blood pressure & sugar
Manage stress

šŸ’ Final Thought
Your heart works tirelessly for you every second…
But the choices you make daily determine whether your arteries stay clear or clogged.
Don’t wait for symptoms to start caring. Prevention is always cheaper than treatment

Topic: Your body is not your enemy

Have you ever sat down and thought…
ā€œWhy is my body always stressing me?

The tiredness.
The headaches.
The sudden lack of energy.
The emotional ups and downs.

It can feel like your body is working against you.
But here’s something most people don’t realize…
Your body is actually trying to protect you.

That stress you feel?
It’s your body releasing cortisol—trying to help you respond to pressure.

That fast heartbeat?
Your system preparing you for action.

That tiredness?
A signal that you need rest—not punishment.

Your body is not your enemy.

It’s your first line of defense.
The problem is not your body…
The problem is that we were never taught how to understand it.

And that’s exactly why I’m here
Your favorite physiologist to break it down for you, simply and realistically.

Start listening to your body, not fighting it.

Be honest—have you ever blamed your body for something it was actually trying to help you with?

WEDNESDAY REFLECTION: WEDNESDAY IN THE MIDDLE 🄰

Today is Ileya, a public holiday for many around me. The streets are quieter, and the hospital feels different ,lighter, but still moving.

For me, growth doesn’t pause because the calendar says ā€œoff.ā€
Wednesday is that tricky middle of the week. Not the fresh start of Monday, not the relief of Friday. It’s where tired feet and full hearts meet.

In scrubs today, I’m reminded again:
Showing up matters, even when it’s not dramatic.
Taking the next BP, learning the next procedure, listening to the next patient story — that’s faithfulness in the small things.

Physiology calls it homeostasis - the body fighting to stay steady under pressure.
I’m learning the soul has a version of that too. When I’m weary, I don’t have to pretend I’m strong. I just have to remember I’m not carrying this alone.

ā€œCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.ā€ — Matthew 11:28

So today, holiday or not, I’m choosing to be present.
Faithful in the middle. Trusting that small obedience in scrubs still matters to Abba.

What’s one thing keeping you steady in the middle of your week?

šŸ’šTUESDAY REFLECTION: STILL SHOWING UPšŸ’š

Monday adrenaline is gone.
Tuesday is when it hits , the fatigue, the repetition, the weight of what you’re seeing.

But Tuesday is also where faith gets practical.

Yesterday I watched a heart struggle.
Today I’m watching nurses show up with compassion even when they’re tired.
Doctors making decisions with incomplete information.
Patients praying through pain.

Physiology taught me how the body compensates under stress.
Hospital life is teaching me how the soul does too.

When you’re running on little sleep, when the cases feel heavier than the textbooks, when you wonder ā€œcan I actually do this?ā€ —
That’s when grace steps in.

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.ā€ – 2 Corinthians 12:9

So today, I’ll take the next vitals.
Ask the next question.
Hold the next hand.
Not because I have it all figured out, but because Abba is carrying me through it.

Tuesday, I’m still here.
Still learning.
What's keeping you going today? 😊

šŸ«€MY ECG TEST EXPERIENCE šŸ«€šŸ«€

When I was about to do my ECG test, I was a bit scared 🄹.
Not because of the process, but because of what the result might show.

As small as it may seem, that moment felt real.
My heart rate increased, my body was tense…
like I was expecting something serious.

The funny thing is everything turned out completely fine.
And it made me realize something:
sometimes, it’s not the situation that scares us…
it’s the fear of the unknown.

Even as a physiology student, understanding what’s happening in your body doesn’t always stop the feeling.

But one thing is certain:
not everything we worry about turns out bad.
Some things just remind us to calm down and trust the process.

Have you ever been scared of a test or result… and it ended up being nothing serious?

WEEKEND REFLECTION 🌿

This weekend, I just want to pause and acknowledge one truth that keeps showing up in my life , God has been faithful šŸ¤—.
Not because everything went exactly how I planned…
Not because there were no moments of stress, fear, or uncertainty…

But because in every single moment, I was sustained.

There were times I felt tired, yet I found strength.
Times I was unsure, yet things still worked out.
Times I didn’t even have the right words to pray, yet peace found me anyway.

That’s faithfulness.

As a physiology student, I keep thinking about how the body keeps functioning without me consciously controlling it ;the heartbeat, the breathing, the balance.
And it reminds me that in the same way, God is working behind the scenes of my life🄰
keeping things together even when I don’t see it.

This weekend, I’m not just grateful for the big wins…
I’m thankful for:

The protection I didn’t even notice
The doors that quietly opened
The strength I didn’t know I had
And the grace that carried me through it all
If this week didn’t go as planned for you, don’t be discouraged.
Sometimes, God’s faithfulness is not loud, it’s steady, quiet, and consistent.
Going into the new week with this mindset: God has done it before, He will do it again.

✨ Take a moment today and reflect on one thing God did for you this week that you can’t ignore?

LOVE,BUT MAKE IT PHYSIOLOGY 🧠 ā™„ļø
Episode 3: HEART BREAK šŸ’” šŸ’”

You think heartbreak is just an emotions…
No heartbreak is actually biological.

That heavy feeling in your chest?
That loss of appetite?
That sleepless night?
It’s not just in your mind.

šŸ”¬ When your heart breaks, your brain processes it like physical pain.
The same areas that respond when you’re injured… light up when you’re hurting emotionally.

Your body releases cortisol (stress hormone),
Your heart feels strained,
Your system goes into distress mode.
There’s even something called Broken Heart SyndromešŸ’”šŸ’”

where intense emotional pain can temporarily affect how your heart functions.

So no…
You’re not being dramatic.
Your body is simply reacting the way it was designed to.

šŸ’ Healing from heartbreak isn’t just emotional…
It’s physiological recovery.
Give yourself time.
Give yourself grace. ā¤ļø
Have you ever felt heartbreak physically? šŸ’”

LOVE BUT MAKE IT PHYSIOLOGY šŸ§ ā™„ļø

Episode 1:love is not just a feeling... it's chemistry

Love is not just I like you.
It’s your body running a full physiological experiment šŸ§ŖšŸ˜…

Let me explain this like a true physiology student šŸ‘‡

The moment you see someone you like, your brain doesn’t just feel something…
It reacts.

Your brain releases dopamine , the same chemical responsible for pleasure, reward, and even addiction.
That sudden happiness? That excitement you can’t explain?

That’s not just emotions… that’s neurochemistry at work 🧠✨
But it doesn’t stop there…

Your sympathetic nervous system (yes, the same one for fight or flight) gets activated.

Now your body thinks something BIG is happening šŸ˜…

So what do you notice?

ā¤ļø Your heart starts beating faster
šŸ’¦ Your palms get sweaty
šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø Your breathing changes
šŸ¦‹ Your stomach feels funny

Those ā€œbutterfliesā€ you always hear about?

It’s actually your body redirecting blood flow and reacting to excitement.
Funny enough… your body doesn’t fully know the difference between
I like this person and ā€œI’m in dangerā€
It just reacts the same way 😭

That’s why love can feel intense, confusing, and sometimes even overwhelming.

So next time you see that person and your heart skips a beat…
Just rememberšŸ§
It’s not only your heart involved…
Your brain, nerves, and hormones are all in on it.
Now be honest with me šŸ‘€
Is it really loveā¤ļø or is your physiology just doing its job?
šŸ‘‡ Let’s gist in the comments
