TRIBUTE IN HONOUR OF OUR DEPARTED COLLEAGUE, SISTER AND FRIEND: GLORIA OLUSOLA ADEDOJA Ph.D
For and on Behalf of Department of Early Childhood and Educational Foundations,
Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan
Gloria Olusola Adedoja (Nee Aiyelaagbe) 5 April 1963 - 13 April 2018: Life as a Lesson in Service and Dedication
We mourn, we are devastated, we are heartbroken at the news of your sudden demise;
But as we accept that this life is a journey, we came, we labour and when the appointed time comes, it is not how long but how well. It is by God’s own verdict.
You have impacted in the lives of the young and the old, male and female;
You were the darling of the unconnected, the poor students, the weak, the strong but misinformed and misguided;
Indeed you trully earned the dignified title of Aunty;
You were the true epitome of what our dignified profession required of us - in loco parentis to our students.
You served in various positions of sensitive responsibilities notably as Examination Officer to the Department of Teacher Education for years so long to forget;
And at every stage, you distinguished yourself in excellence.
As if you knew that your journey was going to be short;
You worked with passion, you denied yourself of holidays, you laboured for others, you planted seeds of friendship and service to others, you ensured the successful graduation of many students and secured employment to many others.
You offered sanctuary and home to many too numerous to list, you offered them food, money, hope and parental love. To all these, you were trully an heroine.
In academic, you distinguished yourself; a great teacher, researcher and innovator.
Mobile learning was your passion where you blazed the trail; Educational Technology was your world and you spent quality years dreaming it, teaching it and mentoring others. Just one more step to your full Professorial Chair, but alas, you did not wait. What a great loss to academia, the University of Ibadan...
Although we mourn, we also celebrate your life, a life of service, of dedication, of loyalty, of courage and of endurance. To the immediate family, we mourn with you and join you in prayers that God grants you the fortitude to bear it. And for the extended family of friends, colleagues, students, mentees and others too numerous to list, may the good Lord comfort us all.
Sola did not loose her faith till the very end, she wore her enigmatic smile till her last days and she continued to. Rest in peace Dr, Adedoja ,
