One statement from Victory Ashaka has stayed with me:
"You can never be recommended for opportunities if people don't know what you're capable of doing."
That statement carries a powerful lesson that many talented people overlook.
One of the biggest misconceptions is believing that hard work alone is enough to get noticed. While excellence is important, it doesn't automatically guarantee visibility.
You may have the qualifications, the skills, and the potential, but if the right people don't know what you can do, many opportunities may pass you by.
I've seen graduates with outstanding credentials struggle to secure opportunities, while others with similar qualifications continue to grow, advance, and attract recommendations.
The difference is often visibility and positioning.
Build a strong track record. Share your work. Document your achievements. Let people see the value you create.
In today's world, it's no longer enough to be competent. You must also learn to communicate your value, build meaningful relationships, and position yourself where opportunities can find you.
Your career growth is not determined solely by what you know. It is also influenced by who knows what you know, trusts your abilities, and understands the value you bring.
Hard work matters.
Skills matter.
But visibility is the bridge that connects your competence to opportunities and recommendations.
Keep showing up. Keep creating. Keep letting your work speak—and make sure people can hear it.
