We have entered the peak of the dry season and this period is the most dangerous time for every oil palm plantation. One fire incident can wipe out a full farm worth millions within minutes, and most times it comes from simple carelessness in your area.

This season is very volatile. The grass is dry, the wind is strong, and even a small spark can spread across hectares. Many farmers lose their plantations between November and March because they did not prepare early.

To protect your farm, here are the steps you must take immediately.

Clear a proper fire trace around your plantation. Remove every dry grass around your boundary and make the space wide and clean like an open road. If the fire starts from another farm, the fire trace will stop it from crossing into your land.

Speak with the community around your farm. Let the youths, landowners, and neighbours know how serious this period is.

Talk to the hunters in that area. Many fire outbreaks start from cigarette butts dropped by hunters in the bush. Warn them to avoid your farmland during this period or act more responsibly.

If you want extra security, install a CCTV camera on your farm. It helps you trace where any fire started and who entered your land before the incident. It also discourages trespassing.

Fire does not give a second chance. Once it enters your farm, the damage is permanent. Please don’t wait until something goes wrong.

If you want us to come and help you carry out professional fire tracing on your farm, send a message immediately. We will inspect the location and get it handled for you before the fire risk increases further.

Your safety and your plantation’s survival come first.

HOW TO PREVENT FISH MORTALITY IN YOUR FISH FARM

Reducing fish deaths is key to profit and sustainability. Here are practical tips

1. Maintain Good Water Quality
- Monitor pH (6.5–8.0), dissolved oxygen, and ammonia regularly.
- Change water partially (20–30%) weekly or as needed.
- Avoid overcrowding follow proper stocking density.

2. Feed Properly
- Use quality feed, not expired or moldy.
- Avoid overfeeding uneaten feed rots and pollutes water.
- Feed 2–3 times daily in small amounts.

3. Handle Fish with Care
- Reduce stress during transportation, sorting, or harvesting.
- Use clean nets and don’t drop or injure fish.

4. Prevent and Monitor Disease
- Quarantine new fish for 7–10 days.
- Use salt baths for minor infections (especially in fingerlings).
- Watch for signs: unusual swimming, loss of appetite, wounds.

5. Ensure Proper Stocking
- Don’t overcrowd tanks or ponds.
- Follow recommended stocking:
- Catfish: 100–150/m² in tanks
- Tilapia: 3–5/m² in ponds

6. Provide Aeration
- Use air pumps or paddles to supply oxygen, especially in tanks or during hot weather.

7. Secure Pond/Tank
- Prevent predators (birds, frogs, snakes) and theft.
- Use nets or fencing where needed.

8. Keep Records
- Monitor daily mortality, feed quantity, and water changes.
- Identify issues early before they spread.

Summary: Clean water + good feed + low stress = healthy fish & low mortality.

NATURAL FARMING REDUCING CHEMICALS WITH INTEGRATED SYSTEMS

Integrated farming naturally reduces chemical use by recycling waste, boosting soil health, and improving animal immunity.

✅ How Integrated Systems Cut Chemical Use

1. Nutrient Recycling
- Poultry droppings and livestock manure composted for organic fertilizer no synthetic fertilizers needed.
- Fish pond water rich in nutrients used to irrigate crops.

2. Pest Control Without Chemicals
- Use natural predators like ducks or guinea fowl to control insects.
- Plant pest-repellent crops (e.g., neem, marigold) alongside vegetables.

3. Disease Management Naturally
- Rotate animals and crops to break disease cycles.
- Use herbal extracts (garlic, neem, moringa) for boosting animal immunity.
- Maintain cleanliness and biosecurity to prevent disease, reducing the need for antibiotics.

4. Soil Health Improvement
- Incorporate green manure and cover crops to improve soil organic matter.
- Reduce tillage to maintain beneficial soil organisms.

5. Water Management
- Use pond water and rainwater harvesting to avoid chemical runoff.
- Biofilters and aquatic plants clean water naturally.

🌿 Benefits
- Healthier food free from chemicals
- Lower input costs
- Sustainable ecosystem support
- Better animal and crop productivity

HOW TO CONTROL SMELL AND HYGIENE IN INTEGRATED FARMS

Integrated farms (e.g., poultry + fish + livestock) can develop bad odors if not managed well. Here’s how to keep your farm clean and odor free

✅ 1. Manage Animal Waste Properly
- Regular Cleaning: Remove poultry droppings, manure, and leftover feed daily.
- Composting: Convert animal waste into organic fertilizer instead of dumping it around.
- Use deep litter systems in poultry houses and change litter regularly.

✅ 2. Control Water Waste
- Avoid stagnant water near pens, ponds, or animal areas.
- Drain wastewater properly and maintain flow in fish ponds.
- Use gravel or sand beds for simple wastewater filtration.

✅ 3. Use Odor Absorbing Materials
- Agricultural lime or wood ash sprinkled on floors reduces smell.
- EM (Effective Microorganisms) solutions sprayed in pens or compost pits neutralize bad odors naturally.

✅ 4. Proper Ventilation
- Ensure poultry/livestock houses have enough airflow to dry out moisture and reduce ammonia smell.

✅ 5. Separate Units
- Keep poultry, fish, and livestock units slightly apart to reduce cross-smell and disease spread.
- Use barriers or vegetation (like lemongrass) around each section.

✅ 6. Dead Animal Management
- Remove and bury or compost dead animals immediately never leave them exposed.

✅ 7. Educate Workers
- Train staff to clean daily, spot early signs of hygiene issues, and use equipment properly.

Good hygiene = healthier animals, better yields, and a more pleasant working environment.

𝟓 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝟑 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟏 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧: 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲

I wanted a bigger farm, so I went out and hired land. I came across this beautiful, expansive piece next to Athi River near Kilimambogo. I fell in love instantly — without thinking much or asking many questions, I paid for a 3-year lease on the spot.

Let me tell you Maina — foolishness is costly! love at first sight in farming is a su***de!

I planted onion seeds in the nursery. One morning I woke up to find all my nursery beds turned into a dance floor overnight. Hippos had visited — destroyed everything. Tears rolled down, but I didn’t give up. I fenced the place semi-permanently and went on to plant tomatoes.

Everything went well until harvest time. After the first harvest, heavy rains came. One morning, as I went with buyers, I found all my tomato plants floating in the river. My entire 5-acre field washed away. That day, I cried like a little baby craving for breast milk.

My friend, farming foolishly not only costs you money — it can break you literally into pieces.

Before you hire land, unlearn, learn, and relearn. Ask all the questions you need:
✅ Is the area prone to flooding?
✅ Are there wildlife risks like hippos or elephants?
✅ Who is the true owner — and is there a written lease?
✅ What do the neighbours say about the land’s history?

Do your due diligence. Don’t fall in love with the land before you understand it.
Farming teaches humility — but remember: foolishness is costly, and experience is an expensive teacher.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING FARMABLE LAND

This is that time of the year people prepare for next planting season

One of those ways we can prepare is by starting land acquisition which is the first step to a profitable farming

In your quest for farmable land, these are important factors you need to consider

When we want to buy land for farming, most people think any land is suitable for farming without considering some important factors

There are two factors to be considered when buying farmable land which are 1.PHYSICAL FACTORS
2.EXTERNAL FACTORS

Which I will be writing on the physical factors today

PHYSICAL FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING FARMABLE LAND

💥 Topography/Slope:Check if the land is sloppy,if it is, avoid sloppy land by all means

💥Nearness to water:Try as much as you can to buy land with water source that run all year round not a water source that get dried during dry season, this will give you the chance to farm all year round using irrigation.

💥Buy land that is not too far from the main road

💥Also check if there is accessible road to the land you are buying

Is there a motorable road that link to your farm?

Can tractor have access to your main land without affecting other farmers around you?

💥Nearness to labour: Don't buy land in an environment where there are lesser farmers,if there are more residential buildings, labour will be high and scarce in those areas

In a farming community, weeding of 1 acre of cassava farm is #20000 - #30000 or even more depending on the area

In non farming communities, you will be charged higher,if not times two which will increase your cost of production.

💥Will it give room for expansion when the need arises without moving away from your first farmland.

💥Closeness to buyers of your produce/market

💥Farm exposure to sunlight:Don't go for areas with too much tree serving as shade to the farmland

💥Check if farmland can be easily flooded in raining season.

💥Don't buy luxury land for farming, farmable land are always cheaper than residential land

In some places(e.g Ogun, Oyo Osun,Ondo and Kwara state),you will get for 500k per acre and in some places that is fast developing, you will get an acre for up to 800k

800k or more is the amount you will get a luxury land

💥And on a last note, check if the land is free of herders and communal crisis's and invasion

💥If you can't afford to buy land now, lease/rent

When you finally get your land, reach out to us for your seedlings and suckers

We sell:

🍃Cashew seedlings
🍃 Pineapple sucker
🍃 Plantain suckers
🍃Cocoa seedlings
🍃Banana suckers
