Most people don’t know this… but one of the simplest, cheapest and most natural things you can eat in your last weeks of pregnancy can actually make your labor faster, smoother, and reduce your chances of C-section.

And it’s not ginger…
Not yoghurt…
Not milk…

It’s DATES. Yes, those small brown fruits you see in the market.

Let me shock you 👇

💥 Pregnant women who eat 6 dates a day from 37 weeks:
✨ Arrive the hospital more dilated
✨ Have a shorter first stage of labor
✨ And are far less likely to need a C-section

Why? Because dates are doing silent work inside your body, work you cannot see but your cervix can feel.

Here’s what’s happening inside you:
🍯 Dates help your cervix soften and open
🍯 They make your uterus respond better to oxytocin (your natural labor hormone)
🍯 They give you energy when contractions start
🍯 They even contain natural prostaglandins that help your cervix ripen faster

This is why some women reach the hospital already 4cm, 5cm, even 6cm dilated without even knowing anything has started yet.

And the best part?
They are natural, safe, affordable, and sweet.

So if you’re 37 weeks and above, your small daily assignment is simple:
👉 6 dates a day.
Your future self in the delivery room will thank you.

Mama, don’t keep this information to yourself.
Another pregnant woman needs to hear it.

BREECH

What does it mean when a baby is breech?

Breech is a term used to describe your baby's position in the womb. Breech position means your baby is bottom-down instead of head-down.

Babies are often active in early pregnancy, moving into different positions.

But by around 8 months, there's not much room in the uterus. Most babies maximize their cramped quarters by settling in head down, in what's known as a cephalic or vertex presentation.

But if you have a breech baby, it means they're poised to come out buttocks and/or feet first.

At 28 weeks or less, about a quarter of babies are breech, and at 32 weeks, 7 percent are breech. By the end of pregnancy, only 3 to 4 percent of babies are in breech position. At term, a baby in breech position is unlikely to turn on their own.

LETS LEARN ABOUT JAUNDICE TODAY:

Please, jaundice is NOT always “normal” in newborns. It’s not because the baby is fair. It’s not because of breast milk. And no it’s not something to “just ignore.”

We see this all the time — a new baby comes in yellow, sleepy, not feeding well, and the parents have been told “it will go on its own. Sometimes it does. But other times, it doesn’t and it damagess the baby’s brain permanently.

Newborn jaundice is caused by too much bilirubin in the blood. A little? Okay. The body may handle it. But when it gets too high? That’s dangerouss. VERY dangerouss.

There’s something called kernicterus — that’s when the bilirubin gets into the brain. Once that happens, it’s not just yellow skin anymore. Now we’re talking brain damage, deafness, seizures, delayed development. Sometimes, even deathh.

Jaundice that appears within the first 24 hours of life? That’s NOT normal.

Jaundice that keeps getting worse after the first few days? Also NOT normal.

Jaundice that spreads from the eyes to the face, then chest, tummy, legs — not normal.

And NO, sunbathing your baby by the window or giving them glucose water won’t fix it. Please stop all these dangerouss home remedies. You are wasting time while the baby’s brain is being affected.

Take the baby to the hospital and professionals will check the bilirubin levels. They will treat early — maybe with phototherapy (blue light treatment), or sometimes with a bloodd transfusion if it’s that serious.

Your baby’s life and brain are too precious to gamble with. Mostly our Africa mothers. Please read this and share for others to benefit as well.

If you’re pregnant and notice persistent headaches, swelling in your hands or face, or sudden weight gain—please don’t ignore it.

You could be developing preeclampsia—a serious pregnancy condition that needs urgent medical attention.

Preeclampsia usually happens after 20 weeks of pregnancy and is marked by high blood pressure and signs of organ damagee, especially to the kidneys or liver. If not treated, it can progress to eclampsia, which includes life-threatening seizures.

That’s why we monitor your blood pressure, urine, and weight gain at every antenatal visit. It’s not just routine—it’s protection.

Here’s what we look out for:

Blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or higher

Protein in the urine (proteinuria)

Swelling in the face, hands, or feet (edema)

Headaches that don’t go away

Blurred vision or seeing flashing lights

Pain under the ribs (especially on the right side)

Nausea or vomiting later in pregnancy

Why it’s serious:
Preeclampsia can affect the placenta, reducing blood flow and nutrients to the baby. It also puts the mother at risk for strokee, liver failuree, kidney damagee, and seizures.

In severe cases, we may need to deliver the baby early to protect both mother and child.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

If you have any of the warning signs, speak to your doctor or midwife immediately.

You are not overreacting. Your concerns are valid.

Your health—and your baby’s life—are worth the extra attention.

THE FERTILE WINDOW
The fertile window is the only time in a woman’s cycle when fertilization can happen, leading to pregnancy.
Yet, many women are unaware of this or struggle to recognize the signs.
WHAT IS THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE?
The menstrual cycle is a finely tuned hormonal process that was designed to prepare a woman’s body for pregnancy.
A typical cycle lasts for 28 days, however anything between 21 and 35 days is considered normal.
The cycle is divided into 4 phases, each of them with varying hormonal changes.
PHASES OF THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE
1. Menstrual phase (Day 1-5)
This phase begins on the first day of bleeding and can last as short as 3 days or as long as 7 days.
It occurs when pregnancy has not taken place, and the lining of the uterus is shed through the va**na.
In this phase, hormone levels of estrogen and progesterone are extremely low.
Common symptoms include:
- Cramping
- Fatigue and tiredness
- Mood swings
- Bleeding.
2. FOLLICULAR PHASE (Day 1-13)
The follicular phase overlaps with the menstrual phase, but continues without it.
It is the period where the follicles are stimulated by the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and one becomes dominant enough to mature an egg.
Here, estrogen levels rise for a bit to thicken the uterus for possible pregnancy.
3. OVULATION (14th day of your cycle)
Ovulation occurs around day 14 of your cycle, and it is triggered by a sharp rise in leuteinizing hormone.
Here, the mature egg is released into the fallopian tube to wait for the s***m.
This is the most fertile time in the cycle, and it lasts for 12-24 hours.
Signs of ovulation include:
- Clear, and stretchy cervical mucus
- Mild stomach pain or twinge
- Increased s*x drive
- Slight rise in basal body temperature (after ovulation).
LUTEAL PHASE (Day 15-28)
This is the last phase of the cycle.
Here, the ruptured follicle forms the corpus luteum, which secretes progesterone.
Progesterone is the female hormone responsible for maintaining pregnancy.
If fertilization does not occur:
- The corpus luteum breaks down
- Hormone levels plummet
- The cycle starts all over again, with menstruation.
WHAT IS THE FERTILE WINDOW?
The fertile window is simply the six-day period in a woman’s cycle when she’s most likely to become pregnant.
It includes:
- 5 days leading to the ovulation
- The day of the ovulation
Why is this?
The egg only survives for 12 - 24 hours, however s***m can live in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days.
This enables them lie in wait for the egg, and for fertilization to occur.
HOW DO YOU TRACK YOUR FERTILE WINDOW?
Your fertile window is 5 days leading to ovulation, and your ovulation day.
Ovulation usually occurs mid-cycle and if you have a 28 days cycle, it occurs on the 14th.
However, if your cycle is longer, subtract 14 from the length of days. Whatever number you get is your ovulation date.
For example: 32-14 =18. Your ovulation would be on the 18th if you have a 32-day cycle.
Other ways include:
- Cervical mucus monitoring: Look for stretchy and egg white consistency mucus
- Basal body temperature: Slight increase in temperature after ovulation
- Ovulation prediction kits: Detects the surge of leuteinizing hormone before ovulation.
- Cycle tracking apps: Helps you predict fertile days based on past cycle.

Have you taken your folic acid today?

I hope you are aware that you are supposed to start taking folic acid at least a month to when you are planning to get pregnant.

Folic acid is necessary for the formation of neural tube during the early development of a baby which subsequently develops into the brain and spinal cord.

This tube closes with the first weeks of pregnancy even before a woman realizes she’s pregnant.

Taking it before and during pregnancy (especially in your first trimester) reduces the risk of having a baby born with a swelling at his/her back or incomplete head.

Recommended daily dose is 400cmg(0.4mg)

Apart from formation of baby, it could also help to build your bl00d level

Take Note: The fact that you aren’t taking folic acid during pregnancy doesn’t mean your baby would not be well-formed because you can also get this in your diets even though, it’s not usually adequate in them.

Take your folic acid and avoid story that touches the heart because the damage is usually for life and such baby might not even survive no matter the financial commitment you make.

Types of pelvic examination
• speculum examination( internal examination): speculum examination is a key part of the pelvic examination where the healthcare provider uses an instrument called a speculum to gently open the va**nal walls and visually inspect the va**na and cervix . This helps detect abnormalities and collection of samples ( e.g pap smear, STIS screening)
