TOPIC: JESUS' FIRST MIRACLE AT CANA OF GALILEE
Three days after Jesus was baptized, He attended a wedding at Cana of Galilee. His mother and His disciples were also among the invited guests. Imagine how embarrassing you would be if halfway through your wedding, your best man whispers to you: "The refreshment is finished and we don't know what to do!" On this occasion, perhaps they were all broke and confused. Somehow Jesus' mother got to know that the wine had finished and immediately summoned her Son to help because she knew what He is capable of doing. He saved the situation and broke the tradition of serving the best wine first when he gave them the very best wine for the later part of the reception. This miracle demonstrates that the quality of life Jesus brought is meant to bring joy, life and contentment unto whoever accepts Him as Saviour. It is meant to draw people towards Him and reveal Who He is.
QUESTION: When you are exhausted and spent, where do you go or to whom do you turn for refreshment and renewal?
PRAYER: Jesus, I come to You for my daily refreshing encounters so that I will not lose sight of Your glory, Amen.

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 15 : 1 - 11
TOPIC: THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT JESUS
Today's devotion is about confused believers who, having been saved through the Good news about what Jesus did for all humanity, started doubting at a certain point in their lives. He reminded the believers in Corinth that they were standing as Christians, saved through the gospel he preached to them, unless they believed in vain from the very beginning (vs.1, 2). Sometimes in our relationship with the world or when we face some challenges of life we tend to review our earlier position on matters of faith and practice. When this happens, it is wise to go back to the Bible and renew our faith in the finished work of salvation through Jesus. Read vs. 3-9 again and note Paul's struggles in taking the church back to the Scripture which is good for "correction, for instructions in righteousness...." (2Tim.3:15-17). A peep into v.12 of our text reveals one of the states of confusion in the church which is doubting the possibility of the resurrection of the dead. This is similar to some believers' listening to another gospel comparing Jesus to other prophets. Paul concluded that it was grace that made him who he was through the power of the Gospel (vs.9-11).
QUESTION: Are you confused or in doubt that God raised Jesus from death according to the scripture account?
PRAYER: Help me, dear Lord, to keep declaring faith in the Gospel and that Jesus was raised from death, in Jesus name, Amen.

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 14 : 13 - 25
TOPIC: ORDERLINESS IN PUBLIC WORSHIP (II)
Paul exhorted the Corinthian as well as today's church that anyone who has the urge to speak in tongues should also pray for the gift to interpret. Lots of arguments abound in many churches today on the place and the use of tongues to the extent that uninformed members feel that speaking in tongues is the only gift of the Holy Spirit and all believers must show evidence of it before they are recognized as 'arrived' believers. Some churches make it a prerequisite to becoming a church worker. They say, "You must be born again, baptized with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues." This position has led to the subject been taught around as 'Baptism of fire' where attendees are taught how to speak in tongues! Young ones in the faith or many students in higher institutions struggle to learn it and try to mutter some syllables in unknown languages to impress the guest speaker or other members of the assembly. Paul struggled with this confusion in Corinth and instructed for the purpose of orderliness: "Make sure that all the people who attend the service can understand what you say, as you speak one after the other" Read vs. 18-25 again.
QUESTION: How is the use of tongues ordered in your church for the edification of the congregation?
PRAYER: As I worship You, O Lord, may the reverence of Your name guide my conduct, in Jesus name, Amen.

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 11 : 23 - 34
TOPIC: PROPER AND IMPROPER CONDUCT DURING COMMUNION (II)
From this verse onwards, Apostle Paul began to reaffirm that the ordinance of the communion he received from the Lord was the same he passed on to the Church as a memorial to what Christ used bread and wine to signify (vs.23-25). Showing forth the death of Christ is in a way an affirmation that He truly came, sought for the salvation of man's soul, died, was buried, resurrected and will come again (v26). As we do that, it cautions us to flee from sins that have the capacity to separate us from His love and joy of salvation. We should remember that this ordinance calls for proper conduct and self-examination before coming to the table. It is not to be received any how, neither should we run away from this important fellowship meal but help call us to order each time we come to take it. Therefore, believers should be orderly and make sincere preparations to appear before Christ as if He is physically present. No rowdiness, wait for ministerial direction. The blessings from the fellowship shall be truly ours (vs.33, 34).
QUESTION: What prevents you from partaking in the communion of the Lord's Supper?
PRAYER: Let the remembrance of Your death, resurrection and return at the communion table keep me away from a life of sin, dear Lord, in Jesus name, Amen.

*TOPIC: PREACHING WITHOUT CHARGE*
A pastor once said that he invited a music minister to minister in songs in his church and he told him that he collects hundreds of thousands to do so! One wonders whether the gospel is for sale. Can such people be called to minister in a church that cannot afford that amount of money?
Paul said that his pay is the opportunity to preach the Good News and not to charge. He said that he has disciplined himself to win the prize and not be condemned or disqualified after preaching to others. Money and material gains should never be our goal when preaching the gospel. Rather we should see it as a golden opportunity to reach out to others for Christ.
*QUESTION:* What are your expectations when you have the opportunity to preach the Gospel?
*PRAYER:* My desire is to preach Christ at every opportunity. Help me, dear Lord, to achieve this goal, in Jesus name, Amen.

*TOPIC: TAKE CARE OF YOUR PASTOR*
We often think that the pastor must take care of us and do our bidding. We see him as someone who must suffer or live in poverty. Paul faced this kind of situation which made him ask the Corinthian brethren if they had forgotten what the Scripture says about taking care of their pastors.
In as much as a pastor may not demand his right in this connection, brethren must make him feel welcome, needed and comfortable. Food, clothing, housing, a vehicle and other needs of the pastor must be met in accordance with the strength of the church. Rise up today and support your pastor evangelist and missionary, and you will be glad you did.
*QUESTION:* Can your pastor, evangelist or missionary say that you are among those supporting him?
*PRAYER:* Help me, dear Father, to support Your servants who are laboring for us, Amen.
