What Is Snail?” 🤔

Today in my Basic 2 class, we were reading a passage titled “Snail Hunting.”
Before reading, I asked my pupils to study the picture.

Then I asked:

👉 “How do you hunt for snail?”
One pupil answered:
👉 “You search for it.”

Good.
But then… something unexpected happened.
Another pupil asked:

👉 “What is snail?”
The class shouted in surprise 😄
That moment reminded me of something important:

👉 It is good for children to understand things in their mother language.
So I said:
“Snail in Yorùbá is called Ìgbín.”
Immediately, he nodded…
👉 Now he understood.
🎯 Lesson
Reading is not just calling words…
👉 It is understanding what you read.
As teachers and parents:
✔ Connect learning to what children already know
✔ Use familiar language when needed
✔ Focus on meaning, not just pronunciation
Because:

👉 Understanding is the goal of reading
📩 I help children improve reading and comprehension in simple ways.

👉 “Do your children understand what they read or just say the words?”

I Was Just Guessing…” 🤯
Today during a lesson, I checked my learner’s last term report.
He did well in all subjects…
👉 Except Mathematics (just average).
I was surprised.
So I picked his script and we revised the questions he missed.
Interestingly…
👉 He started solving them correctly.
Then I asked him:
“You know these questions, so what happened before?”
His answer shocked me…
👉 “I was just guessing… I didn’t calculate.”
But now?
👉 “Because you are here, I’m calculating.”
That moment says a lot.
Many children don’t fail Mathematics because they don’t know…
👉 They fail because they don’t follow the process.
🎯 Important Advice to Teachers & Parents
If a child is solving Mathematics:
✔ Don’t accept just answers
✔ Ask them to show their working
✔ Focus on the process, not guessing
Because in Mathematics:
👉 Process brings understanding
👉 Guessing brings mistakes

📩 If your child struggles with Mathematics, I help them build strong understanding step by step.

New Month, New Confidence in Mathematics ✨➕

April begins with good news 😊
Yesterday, my Basic 1 learners (ages 6–7) wrote their Mathematics exam.

After marking, I calculated their class average (based on exam only):

📊 Class Average = 42.5 / 60
👉 See their performance in the image
But beyond the numbers…
this is what truly matters:

These learners once said:
❌ “Math is too difficult.”
Now, they confidently say:

✅ “Math is interesting!”
And for me, that is the real success.
Because a new month is not just about a new date…

It’s about new belief, new growth, and new confidence in every child.

🎯 This April, my focus remains:
Helping learners move from fear → confidence → success

Why many children say “I hate Mathematics.”
It’s rarely because Mathematics is too hard.
Most times, it’s because the child was confused at the beginning and the confusion kept growing.
When a child doesn’t understand a concept early, every new topic starts to feel like a battle.
Soon, fear replaces curiosity.
But when the foundation is explained clearly, something changes.
Confidence grows.
Interest returns.
Learning becomes enjoyable again.
Every child can improve in Mathematics with the right guidance and patience.

If you are a parent who wants your child to build strong confidence in Math, feel free to reach out.

Did you know most children don’t really understand Odd and Even numbers — they just memorize them?

Today in my Basic 2 Math class, I revealed the real secrets behind Odd and Even numbers — and how to use them to solve addition and subtraction quickly.

Most pupils only know:
Even numbers = 2, 4, 6…
Odd numbers = 1, 3, 5…

But they rarely know how these properties actually affect calculations.

Here’s what we explored today:
Addition:
Even + Even = Even → 26 + 24 = 50
Even + Odd = Odd → 26 + 25 = 51
Odd + Odd = Even → 17 + 11 = 28

Subtraction:
Even – Even = Even → 26 – 24 = 2
Even – Odd = Odd → 26 – 11 = 15
Odd – Odd = Even → 17 – 11 = 6

The pupils were amazed 🤯 — their understanding completely changed!

This is why I wonder: why do most teachers skip the practical context for this topic?
When students understand it, they calculate faster, confidently, and accurately.

If you’re a parent or educator who wants your child or pupil to truly master Odd and Even numbers — and use them to solve problems effortlessly — I currently have limited online tutoring slots available.

Many students are not failing because they are dull.

They are failing because no one has broken the subject down properly for them.

I have seen students who were labeled “weak” suddenly improve when lessons became structured and simple.

When a child understands the why behind a concept, confidence changes.

And when confidence changes, performance follows.

If your child:

• Avoids Mathematics
• Struggles with basic foundations
• Or studies hard but still gets low scores

The issue might not be effort.
It might be method.

I currently have limited slots for structured online tutoring (Math & English).

Focused sessions. Clear explanations. Weekly progress tracking.

Send a DM if you’re serious about helping your child improve.
