NCS Takes ICT Advocacy Campaign to Dental College

A joint group of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Nigeria Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT) and Rotary Club of New Haven, Enugu, has taken IT awareness campaign to Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu (FEDCODTTEN) as the College mulls the establishment of Computer Science Department.

The group which canvassed the establishment of the Department of Computer Science to raise Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts, also donated books to the College library.

Receiving the books on behalf of the College, the Rector, Dr. John Emaimo, noted that computer scientists have come to be reckoned with in Nigeria, giving their importance in the present society where most things have to be driven by the information Communication Technology (ICT).

Represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr. Obiora Eke, Emaimo stated that computer scientists have a lot of jobs to do, noting that posterity will be kind to members of the group if they do their jobs well.
“If you manage your job very well, you will find out that those who studied Computer Science may not be able to get jobs without your approval. So, I hope that you people will take your jobs seriously and do them so well so that you can be emulated. For us academics, knowledge is better than money.

“This institution despite its old age is still grappling with a lot of things, but has grown from its initial two departments to nine and we look forward to getting a computer department because these days everything is online. Computers are very relevant now because you can do all things with it,” Eke stated.

He appreciated the three groups for finding the College worthy of the visit and the book donation, assuring the donors that the college would put the books into functional use in a manner that they would not regret the donation.

Speaking earlier, the Enugu State Chairman of Nigeria Computer Society, Mr. Michael Edeh, said they were in the College on a familiarisation mission, particularly after the successful election of a new set of executive members for the body.
